Help.Ship.Weight.

Postby FiziKx » Sun Nov 15, 2009 7:51 pm

There is a ship that I apparently put too much weight on, as it won't let me get on it anymore. I know I've seen threads about this before, but what do I do?

Have you dropped *everything* you're carrying? I thought you couldn't load a ship to within 60kg, so a person could get aboard.
I remember the great Andur O'Shann did this deliberately once... but I think that was before you could drag resources around.

Sorta relevent to this...

Let's say I have a raker, with a sloop docked to it. Is the weight of the sloop counted in the capacity of the raker? Does it slow it down at all?

I wondered the same thing so I found out on IRC. Yeah it sums all the weight aboard, including cabins. The heaviest item is usually people, each at 60,000g. Even dead bodies! Other ships docked extend your max carry capacity (since it's like more rooms), but the weight will still slow down the movement the same.

On the plus side, the wiki page about ships has a formula to calculate how much weight slows your ship, and it's actually not as much as you'd think even at full load, so long as you aren't pushing it many times over your capacity.

You got a problem, as your ship is now useless. Try dropping everything and getting into. If there is a living character or a body you are saved. If your ship is full of resorces and only resources, you won't do a thing without help from the staff.

Have you dropped absolutely everything except the key to get you on it?

It should also be noted that dead bodies lose weight as they deteriorate but if you start a burial project, the weight of those is a solid 60 kilos. If there's not enough room for a living person after that, you'll be able to exit but not enter, so if you're burying someone and don't know how long the corpse has been lying there, it's better to make sure you finish the project before exiting the boat. I can change the weight of the project to match the weight of a body of that age should have but I'm rather busy in real life.
