Yeah right. Tell that to the hermit who went from 1 hostile and 4 cute animals to 117 animals in total of which maybe 60 are hostile. This fix is really great! Really!
I've had a char trying to collect wood all alone, and it was hard before this crap. She spend her time collecting bananas and smoking meat. Now when the hostile animal count more than doubled I don't expect her to survive the next few days.
I don't have the energy to translate, but.... :
17 zebror
6 flodhästar
22 leoparder
16 prärievargar
1 koala
18 gamörnar
24 grönnackade bergslorier
5 trubbnoshörningar
9 sabeltandade tigrar
11 titanus-skalbaggar
sounds reasonable, yeah?

Are chitin shileds better than wooden shields? Sabretooths, leopards, titan beetles and rhinos seem to hit quite a lot through a wooden shield. As I said, my char haven't collected wood for weeks, only bananas and smoking meat for food. They hit a lot.
I'm seriously afraid that this will turn the trend of increasing player base for the swedish language group if a lot of characters start dieing from something infernally stupid like this. That would be sad.

Flee to where? Stop being so freakin ignorant. Or shut up until you have something to add to the discussion.

[16:02] <DudelRok> And if your character is on FU or something... then you sorta picked to doom them. XD
[16:02] <DudelRok> Unless you spawned there then, again, that's the broken spawn mechanic.
[16:04] <DudelRok> So no matter how you look at it, the animal problem... isn't the problem.
I believe that covers the situation at hand.
Cantr mechanics, with being a society simulator, shouldn't encourage lone characters anyway.

Since I now ignore you on IRC I didn't see that until now... too bad there is no ignore on the forum. But to give you one final reply:
No, you're still being an ignorant messerschmitter without facts backing up what you write. Swedes spawn in fixed locations on two places on this island with like 130 animals in every location. The two locations is apart by some 50-60 locations I guess. So i'm not heading there to ask for help with hunting.
I am sure that this animal thing is no biggie in a town with 20 chars wielding steel battleaxes, but towns in the Swedish area has 4 characters at most in them.

Darwin never said that the weak SHOULD die. Bullcrap like this has been used too often to justify surpressing the weak. But that just as a side note.
Now that I've heard the full story it does indeed seem like a pretty harsh change and lower animal numbers might indeed be better. On the other hand, people used to survive under similar conditions...

Pretty in pink.

I thought that in the real world, carnivore numbers are much smaller than herbivore numbers. There aren't equal numbers of lions and gazelles. There are many times more gazelles. So in Cantr, it might be reasonable to have the upper limit of a carnivore species be 5% or 10% of the upper limit of an herbivore species.

That made me laugh, the bold part to be specific.
You are correct, though... nothing about "should".

And the animals were FIXED as they were recently BROKEN.... so someone enjoyed a part of the game that wasn't working as it was, taking advantage of a glitch and is now mad they can't do as such, anymore.
Although they were probably just seeded with their original spawn numbers.

Animals either only eat Cantrinians or they don't eat.
Never seen an event "You see a lion kill a gazelle." However I have seen both lions and gazelle's attack and kill Cantrinians.... well maybe not the gazelle kill but I've seen them attack at least once. They are usually provoked, though.
Further thinking made me think that'd be awesome, though. Epicness if you could see the animals attacking each other instead of Cantrinians for once.
