I want my coke back!

Postby €e$y » Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:35 pm

Where is my coke?

Why someone recklessly removed coke from petrol manufacturing process?
And now we have in game hundreds of useless coke ovens :!:
Why?

I think you mean soda, otherwise it's confusing.

And what was soda's point, anyway? O.o

No, he means coke. I am very sorry about the now useless coke ovens, but we came to the conclusion that it was a mistake to introduce coke to the game in the first place. It had exactly one application and the same project could also be fueled with coal which made the whole thing kind of pointless.

Existing coke can be transformed back to coal and we can probably also give also a refund for the coke ovens.

Again, sorry for the inconveniences.

Well, it's quite good idea to put coal instead of coke into petrol manufacturing process.

Is it possible to vanish all coke ovens in game?
Some return of resources and work/time inserted in building them would be fine also.

Or, maybe, just leave as it is now - restore coke to making petrol and think about new usage of coke. In real world coke is used as a "fuel and as a reducing agent in smelting iron ore in a blast furnace." (Wiki)

So, maybe new usage of coke - will replace coal in steel manufacturing?
Steel will me more expensive than iron - nowadays costs of producing both are nearly the same.

Well, we considered this, but can you imagine the reactions if we replaced coal with coke in iron manufacturing projects? Coal has been well established and switching to coke would only make the process a little more complicated. Beside iron, we couldn't think of any other sensible application for coke, so we decided to just remove it.

Coke ovens can be reverted as far as I know, but I believe it's not easy.

And actually, oil refining projects are now fueled by oil and nothing else.

Refund! I demand the satisfaction of a refund! I want 100 cantr dollars. I can buy a lot of prostitutes and crack with that type of money.

Could use it as a substitute to anything that needs coal.
Compresses the coal to 65% it's weight with wood in the coke oven. Then you're only required to use three times less the amount of coke, than you would coal, in any project that requires coal.
This would help both with storage and efficiency.

Well, this wouldn't really add much to the game since practically everybody should be able to turn coal into coke. Coke would become the new coal and taking some necessary balancing into account, the only difference to today would be that we would have an intermediary step in everything that needs coal, since everyone would use coke instead.
Another, technical, problem would be that you would have to add coke clones of any coal project, which are quite a lot.
I'm not totally against this solution, but I'd like to have an easy way to substitute one fuel for another in place first. I guess it will be best to just deactivate coke ovens for now and reactivate them when we've come up with a feasible solution.

If you made coke ovens vanish then bear in mind that there may be existing projects that require coke in order to be finished. I know where one of them is.

Couldn't someone magically fill those projects with the required coke in order to help clean things up...?

Right, thank you, just another reason to only shut them down temporarily.

edit: And wait with the conversion of coke until there has been a chance to finish those projects.
