Active Defending

Postby creepyguyinblack » Tue May 18, 2004 5:03 am

I just had a thought. What if there was a special kind of action you could do caled "defending" or such. When doing it, you could not work on any other project and when someone attacked you, you would have a fairly good chance of automatically retaliating with your best weapon. This could also be adapted so you could choose a specific person to defend as well instead of yourself.

Yes, good idea...even if I hope that the combat system will be changed more further on.

Yeah, also if you had a sheild, then you would be able to do the "sheilding" technique, were you cannot attack anyone for a day, but the chances of an attack getting through are severly lowerd. Interesting for doing the "Phalanx" thing that the Greeks perfected, ie: Everyone interlock there sheilds to do dome really cool defence (Watch Troy).
Also parrying with swords (like sheilding, except with your favorite saber)

Or Gladiator. Or practically ANY movie that was set with the Romans and Greeks (They almost always have a battle where they show the Romans Turtle protection manuver and the Greeks Phalanx fighting - Almost always.)

That tactic is really only useful when you have large masses of soldiers...
You could just walk around it if it is made up of 6-7 people :)

True, but the Tortoise/Phalanx tactic was used primarily as a defence against archers, and it was done in smaller groups, they formed a formation known as "square" which incidently involves the combatants forming a square of tortoised sheilds. This would protect sholdiers from all sides, and was used even during renaisance/Revolutionary wars of the 18th/19th century. It was dropped in world war one. (Forming a square is difficult in a trench, and machine guns kill things with deadly accuracy)
So don't try to correct me on military tactics.

Now get back on topic, all of you!!
