Attacking Ships
I did a short search and didn't come up with anything- A way to attack ships: The Cannon
Now I know there are no gun powder weapons however it could also be thought of as a large harpoon crossbow... You can attack any ship in an X Pixel radius once a day.
Only for larger ships
Edited:*
Starting at Soarer excluding ferry. Small and large cannons. Large cannon gained through upgrading small cannon. Small cannon for Soarer and Raker *AND Skimmer. *One large for Galleon. These *wouldn't cause ship to sink but rather damage sails and the boat itself until it's forced to stop.
Small Cannon
3750g of wood
2500 iron
1250 steel
Double or 1.5 times Small values for Large.
POt-de-fer smallest.
The Tsar Cannon, the largest howitzer ever made, cast by Andrey Chokhov.

Idea seems ok, but cannons should be fairly expensive taking alot of iron, steel and wood. Would have to be able to repair the ship as well so you don't just get aloda stranded charries. Also prehaps this would work if ammo is needed like crossbow bolts so it isnt too overpowered.

Well where is it?

No I really don't like the idea of sinking ships...

Of course they're going to be expensive... I think that my suggestion for the small is a bit underestimated. This is not only because it needs to be difficult but also the extra metal simulates the ammo as Cantr has none. Hell we could make this a three or four project dealio:
Build cannon Base = Xg of wood + Yg of iron + Bunch'o tools
Build cannon Barrel= Xg of steel + Bunch'o tools
Build Cannon=Cannon Base+Cannon Barrel
Then upgrade cannon project:
Lvl2 Cannon= Double steel+Double wood+bunch'o tools
Play with it...

I do like the idea, and of sinking ships. But for shipwrecks, although I'd like that, something you can hit in shallow waters, too....but I'm not sure how that would work.
As for the cost of cannons, you don't need much wood. They used very little to begin with. You will need Rope and perhaps instead of worrying about ammo, and since this would be a very bad weapon from another ships point of view, I think you should have to make a whick. This is something that would need to be replaced after time.
Cannons on the old ships consisted mostly of the cannon, a small base and small wheels made of steel. The small wheels made it had to move them, which was to prevent them from flying back too far after they were fired. After a shot, the cannon rolled back. There was a large piece of timber behind the cannon with rope attached to it. A Few men would heave on the rope to pull the cannon back in place quickly.
So little wood.....lots of iron and steel, and maybe some cotton cloth?

This idea has been suggested numerous times... I'm surprised you didn't find anything! I've always liked this idea, but i doubt anyone will want to have it implemented, due to the huge programming difficulties and also the age old adige "we've gotta fix what we've got rather than making it needlessly complicated"...
And as for the Giant catapult.. I believe it's called a balista.

1) Didn't search cause I didn't care.
2) Yes, fix other things first.
3) Yes, it would be complicated to shoot at things not technically at your location and at a vehicle rather a person, I believe.
4) Ballista, yes... that's the word.

Depends on what you mean by big? The four wheeled catapults that relied on heavy weights to create force to throw a stone or burning straw tied together, that was a catapult. Ballista's worked different. They functioned on trapped force, by using spring tension, by twisting ropes. These shot smaller projectiles such as darts or smaller stones. They were a great weapon for siege warfare as they could be moved much faster, aimed more accurately and fire at greater distances. The Dart is the only one to work on a ship really though.

I really don't like the idea of sinking ships though... that would be way too complicated as it would include dismantling.
Dudel wrote:If it sticks with more of a "giant crossbow" or "catapult" type of deal, and you remove the word "cannon" then I'd be for it.
Like I said. It doesn't need to be thought of as a "Cannon". That's why it's not in the title...
The only thing you can attack are ships. Water vehicles. No buildings, no people, no land vehicles. And it works by pixel distance so you can outrun the assailant.Dudel wrote:3) Yes, it would be complicated to shoot at things not technically at your location and at a vehicle rather a person, I believe.
Thus bringing "dogfights" to Cantr!

Once attack per day per cannon, do it a project that needs 1 day to be finished

Good idea.
I think this cannon should use some fuel - as currently vehicles, maybe on the same principle.
I suggest making greek fire - made from oil, resin and limestone.
Of course it can be named in different way - not greek fire, but sth else.
Imagine - we use this chemical as a fuel to our cannon and shoot (one per day, because we need to have time for reloading). We can hit the target or not. When we hit - one of masts or sails of hostile ship will be damaged (hitted ship lose some of speed - depends from kind of destroyed masts or sails. 5 days for repairing destroyed masts.
It's a way to have real sea battles in Cantr
