PA Systems for radios
This would be more for ships. It could be another component added to the receiver and transmitter, it would allow them to speak out to other ships with out docking "You can not Dock to this harbor. It's under Lockdown" for just one example.

I had thought of that but I really didn't see the use of it in any other situation. When in a town, no matter it's size you can be heard throughout the town. But a ship could use it often. Cars? Still not much of a point. Hand held? I don't really see the use. But maybe I am just not seeing what you are thinking about

yes buildings can communicate from ships. I'm thinking of more along the lines of, if 1 ship doesn't have a radio, and you (in the other ship) do have a radio. A PA would allow you to relay msgs to them, but not recieve. Not to mention, you don't know if the other ship has a radio. and therefore don't know if they are ignoring your radio calls or not. With A PA you know that they heard the msg

But first the radio transmitter would need a switch. Radio/PA.
Personally if any switches and up on the radio, I think On/Off might be better first...
well in the objects screen you see a reciever and transmitter. You could also see a PA system..it would work the same as the transmitter but instead of going over to other radios it would send the msg to boats that are near by...within dockable distance

Ah, so completely separate of the radio rec/tran. A machine on it's own? How exactly would you picture it working?
You can speak to any boat within sight/a few pixels?
Can you speak to one boat at a time or to a "general public" of boats?
Where else would it be heard? Outside in town?
I think inside the coaster harbour is like being in a building. So I don't think you'd be able to hear it in there...

In regards to how it would be heard, I figure it can be the same as docking. Once you are close enough to dock, You can send the msg. I never thought about towns hearing it, but I suppose if you are within docking distance, then a town could hear a msg. Also, if there are more than one boat within docking distance and/or a town, the message would be heard by all

Well you could also do it... in large buildings. If there was a building with many rooms and many workers, the PA could be used to call one or all of them to a specific room or outside or something...

Perhaps sea travel communication should work like land travel communication. If you're driving on a road, you can speak to others within a certain distance, as well as see other vehicles and who's on them.
If you're on a boat, you should be able to hear and speak to anyone on a boat within a certain distance. You can already see those other boats, just not anything on board. Combat, though, should require you to be physically on the same boat. Same with dragging or giving things.
