It wouldn't effect it either so moot point color matters diddly. So what if a hundred players play a blue person. I for one think by making them none standard colors would add racism but avoid real rasism.
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

First point:
But what do you imagine they look like now?

I imagine them looking like 'normal' people, as in RL. From what they describe themselves if they do, if not, then I don't imagine them as such.

Second point:
If Cantr can be paralleled with radio as 'Theater of the Mind", then it should go all the way, or none of the way.

Why not a middle ground?

Third point:
You see a fuschia woman with green hair and orange eyes entering your monitor.
A mustard man with lavender hair and red eyes says: "Hubba, hubba....what a looker!'

LOL...
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. It is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Only I will remain.

Cause some of us don't like the middle ground you propose

I think many people, both newbies and veterans, would find it to weird to accept if we have orange and blue people.

I hope those of you who wants these odd colors doesn't base your decision on fears of racism in the game. That is not the proper way to deal with such a matter...

Clearly, but why? It seems that a middle ground more often than not satisfies the most number of people... i.e. democracy.

It wouldn't effect it either so moot point color matters diddly.

Yes, but it wouldn't be realistic, which as I said before seems to be a common goal in many cases of change.

I completely agree.

What ever....It's not up to you or anyone except Jos. So I'm not going to argue with you anymore. I personally think if it was left up to some of you. You would bleed all the fun out of this.

Indeed it is up to Jos... but the whole point of a poll is to uncover the players opinions.

I like to think of it as discussion, not argument. Well, maybe a bit of both... LOL. If you don't want to continue, then fine. However, IMO, I think it is because a middle ground seems to have more merit than the more 'extreme' side... but then again I would say that, else I would not be discussing/arguing my points.

Finally, I think it is hardly fair to say I would bleed all the fun out of it... for one, this is one of the few occasions of me actually suggesting anything. Secondly, I don't see how it is bleeding the fun out of it anyway... its not like I am going for the complete, everything absolutely MUST conform to real life... not caring if it is less fun.

For me this would be fun in the way of naming your character "Fat Ass" or something similar...
If I'm boring because I don't find a realistic society simulator with blue, orange (or why not neon colors while we are at it?) people funny, then I want to be boring.

Since Jos wanted our views I answered what I find best.
No need to get all worked up over this...

I agree with Pirog in this discussion. The middle ground will probably satisfy the most players. Also, I personally picture my characters as normal-colored people, and don't find orange-skinned people that humourous. Also, I'm trying to picture an introduction for the modified Cantr, and I don't much like the looks of it:

Cantr II is an online role-playing game, in which a large number of players play an even larger number of strangely tinted characters who all together form different societies all over our virtual world. Societies exist in different languages, whereby all language groups play in the same virtual world.

Playing always from the perspective of each individual, wildly colored character, you can try to play the worlds most famous politician, most feared criminal, most cunning military commander, most wealthy entrepreneur, or most beloved village idiot. Any role you can imagine you can play in this game and the challenge is in playing it consistently, and in achieving the goals you set for your odd looking characters individually.

Cantr II is a slow-paced game. Many players only play for a few minutes per colorful character each day and one meeting can take a week to play. The game is designed for players who have more on their agenda then just gaming. However, you can start up to fifteen characters with curious skin tones and when they are all heavily involved in their respective rainbow spectrum communities, they will give you enough to do for a full-time job as player! Be warned, many players experience Cantr II as being very addictive! ;)

Although some experience in a language is needed before one can play in that language group, the game can be used very well to practice your language skills in a second language. Just play one or two varicolored characters in a non-native language and you`ll be surrounded by people talking the language you are learning. Or you can play a prismatic character and so once in a while take a step back and observe what kind of societies you see forming, which can be very educational.

Note that we are in the process of translating the website in different languages. If you use the website in a language other than English, you will still most likely encounter a lot of English.

I'm not sure if it's the difference in how boys and girls think, or if it's just me, but it will be very difficult to change in my mind how my characters look. They're all about 40 and I have a clear vision of what they look like. Thier looks are defined by their personalities and what goes on on around them, and of course, they're all attractive. If this change occurs much later, with a new batch of characters, of course it will be simple to get used to, and a fun idea, but I think it would be very strange to tell the exhisting characters what they look like.

A lot of us have in our minds what our characters look like. To me, I have several attractive ones (Who doesn't?), but to add some flavour, I have three fat characters, and two malnurished ones which all look like crap, just to have people react differently.

It's always funny when some girl starts flirting with you, then you describe wiping your lips from the potatoe crumbs and rubbing them onto your loin cloth :D

Yes, it's the same with me.

I hope you will be able to decide the looks for at least some of your characters....

I think the newspawns should have their looks already decided when they spawn. But I'm sure some older characters have been played to look a certain way, and it wouldn't make sense for them to suddenly look completely different. How about being able to type in a description for your characters?

Yes, that has been discussed in another topic.
It would be great if you have some set values, like hair color, eye color etc., but then a space where you can fill in your own desciption that can be altered as the game moves on.
