Don't forget grey, silver, and gold.
If/when the eye/hair/skin colors are implemented, will it be all according to where they are or where they were originally from, or will players already playing be able to choose what their character looks like? Some people already have descriptions of how their character looks like (through rp), so I was just wondering.

I hope it's done random. just makes it harder for a player to get char's to join such groupes based on colors

I dont mind interesting eye and hair colour additions, but am I the only one here who does not want to see people described as blue/orange/purple skinned? I dont know about you other ppl, but I would find it hard to take things seriously if imagining seeing these strangely coloured people running around. I can just see a huge influx of this if this is ever implemented... I can see this as a fun/interesting idea, but if it was implemented...

Lone wolf>

I think it's crazy to think that way...

I would have HUUUGE problems with orange people , as I play Cantr much for the "feeling" in the game...and that feeling would be very disturbed with such totally unrealistic colorings.
I could take red eyes, perhaps some form of greenish skin or similar, but the sci-fi colors should be left from the game.

I also think racism IC is a thing that should be allowed, since Cantr is a society simulator. It shouldn't be a big problem sorting out the OOC racism from the IC ones...

I think that any chars who show racism that is apparently modeled on RL patterns rather than IC things will be noticed pretty quickly by the PD anyway, since their apparent lack of understanding/noncompliance with the CR will presumably be getting them into trouble in other ways as well.

IMO, well-played chars far outnumber badly played ones, so I think our chars will handle such instances before the PD even has a chance to respond. An example: A char in Pok once said, "Hi, my name's Osama Bin Laden." There was an OOC comment or two, and then a char decided that "Osama Bin Laden" was too long to say, and shortened the guy's name to George or something  . In that case, good players DID cheat, but it shows that blatant OOC references can be handled IC with minimal disruption. If not, Thomas carries a big stick.

Yes there would be a large influx of strange colored people so the norm would be strange color and rare would be what we are use to. It would be a true impression of rarity Just not what we are use to. If you can't take it serious just because there is a blue or green person talking to you then I for one think your missing the point of the simulation. Of course you could also interpet that as a form of racist. 'Your blue so I can't take you seroius'. This concept already exist in RL. Your a tattoo'd piersed freak so I can't take you seroius' As for being random I think it should be regionaly based. Green people are descended from Siom and Red from Krif. Look at socioty around the world people are similar regionaly.

Sooner anything like that is added happier I'll be! I know people will have an image of what their characters look in their own minds, and other people will have idea's of what everyone else looks like, but now they will have little things to work with.

I can see it now...

Tádgh Fitzmaurice - He has light green eyes, dark blue skin, black hair, is of a medium build and is quite tall.

He is standing beside

Jonathan Woodhouse - He has dark yellow eyes, light blue skin, grey hair, is of a stocky build, and is quite small.

Undoubtably this will be nothing what it will be like....but it helps me put a picture to the characters.
People don't change....perceptions do.

@ g1asswa1ker et al.

First point: Surely the ‘point’ of this simulation depends on the person. I may be missing your point of it, but not mine.

Second Point: As to the not taking a blue person seriously, as in your example, the reason is not the fact of the colour, or the difference in it from mine. It is merely the fact that, IRL, you simply do not get blue people. You may see this as a rather crude and simplistic way to view it, but I believe, as a simulator, it should conform as close as possible to RL. Surely that was why there is no magic, why the rules of physics, etc, are the same as IRL, why there are no other ‘races’, i.e. elves and goblins running around, etc. Therefore…

Third point: I have read and heard, etc, that many people actually care about what is happening to their characters. Part of this, I am sure, is based on the proximity of the simulation to RL, and the empathy that this generates. This could be lowered by some of the changes suggested.

Fourth point: I don’t think the addition of ‘unrealistic’ colours, from the RL point of view, would add anything to the simulation. Having white, black, etc, coloured people would still allow for racism issues, etc, and the RP generated from this. JUST having the addition of slightly varied eye/hair colour would be, for me, a happy middle ground.

Just my thoughts.

Definitely have varied hair and eye colours, but limit skin colour to realism, I think, seems to be the general opinion...

Completely agree with Revanael.

Also, the poll could have been clearer, and better phrased I think...

Not everything in cantr reachs a RL simularity. We can't pick another person and carry them. Cars need gas to run but in cantr they run forever. In RL we can ride horses in cantr we can't. There are many more things. And yes we don't have magic but what about notes were on earth can you just pull notes from nowhere forever? Further more I have played alot of RPs and I gain that simular empathy for all my created. I think this comes from the fact that it's something you created nothing more nothing less. I think the realism of the colors added is a moot point it's the cocept we are after not the colors.

All and all I don't think we are arguing about colors here I think we arguing about the level of realism in the simulator. I think we need to stop kidding ourselves here. We are not going to achieve the level of realism we find in RL. We need to focus more on the concepts and find something that will work to simulate those concepts. :x

Oh and as a side note that also goes for all those people who like to tell others how to RP a character.

Of course many things in Cantr do not perfectly reflect reality, nor will it ever “perfectly” reflect reality. However, many changes made have been toward the end of trying to add realism. Also some unrealistic things are made either to not affect playability in a detrimental way, or for other reasons like not being able to destroy notes to keep history. It seems that many changes that have been made, and that are going to be made, are to add realism of some kind. Also, what ‘concept’ exactly will the addition of blue people, etc, bring into the game? Having more normal skin colouring would still add race issues, and RPing.

And yes I also understand about people who like to tell others how to RP a character.

But what do you imagine they look like now? They have no colors, other than what you imagine, or what a character may have said about themselves. I voted for #3 Cantr looks should completely deviate from real world looks.

If Cantr can be paralleled with radio as 'Theater of the Mind", then it should go all the way, or none of the way. Either leave it up to the player's imagination, or go for all the color that exists.
