Graveyards

Postby Pirog » Fri Aug 01, 2003 6:30 am

The matter has been touched in the "digging holes" topic, but I think that the idea isn't really a part of that theme.

I think it would be good if there was a possibility for a more noticable grave in the game.
When you bury someone you get the chance to leave a few words behind, telling who is buried there and so on.

"Here lies Pirog who spent his life playing silly internet games when he should be studying"

As important people die in the game it would be nice if they could be remebered in this way...I have also seen that marriages are getting more common and I bet they would want to leave some words behind for their beloved when they leave the world.

Perhaps every location could have a graveyard section that people could visit?

Like this idea! IF there were graveyards a long time ago? OMG Milandrah Vaugh wouldn't have made a fool of herself by touching John Boys dead corpse. LOL
I agree completely. :)

This is great! The game already tracks who was buried where, and I remember Jos saying at one point that adding a "graveyard" button wouldn't be difficult. Adding an epitaph shouldn't be too hard, and could be done by whoever buries the body. The only catch I can see is that someone might bury "a man in his thirties" as a favor to the town he's passing through, not realizing that that anonymous stranger was someone beloved by the townspeople who would've dearly loved to give him a somewhat better burial.

Then perhaps, for that reason, burying projects could be announced, like undocking a boat.

surely random people burying people in town is just one of those things people have to find ways to cope with? For example, have a law forbidding people to bury bodies, except for the undertaker who was told what to put on the grave by the people who were close to the deceased?

I like the idea of having more visable reminders of the deceased.

Yeah...that would be a problem.
Perhaps there should be a way to dig graves up again?

Then you could bury the dead with the belongings and it would also open up the possibility of grave robbers.

Putting epitaph is a very good idea! i was thinking of a graveyard as a sort of building that would allow to bury people quicker. and believe me there's many people to bury in the french place...
and what about generating epidemy like black plague if there's too much cadavers in a town ?

Ya, I totally agree. I've been thinking of this idea for a little while.

something to bury the dead faster would be nice but it does only take 2 game hours at present anyway. i can remember when the project's page at kwor took 5 minutes to open cause we had a couple of hundred half buried bodie there

I have seen many nice notes about loved ones who have passed. It would be nice if these couldn't be taken and were permanent objects in a land.

I have, the note by Rick, about Etain. That's nice. :)

But that's like the only memorial type note i've seen in game, and that other man, in KF also.

Perhaps instead of a grave marker being created when a body is buried, it could be a seperate project altogether.

Perhaps with a certain amount of stone/limestone/marble, as well as a chisel and hammer, a person can make a "grave marker"/"memorial stone"/"whatever-we-call-it."

Multiple people could create markers/memorials to someone dead if they chose to, since it wouldn't specifically be up to the person who starts the burial to choose a script.

Of course, someone who wasn't fond of your loved one/friend/neighbor could make a memorial that's designed to be negative, but there are ways to disuade a char before the project is finished

addition:

Having markers not associated w/ the burials themselves would allow people to put a memorial in their hometown/wherever, even if the person died at sea, in a foreign land, or has maybe been missing for so long that people think they must be dead.

There could be a seperate "graveyard" section on every location...so that it won't interfere with other objects.
