Notes...that you can't copy?

Postby g1asswa1ker » Fri May 14, 2004 12:22 am

Right now you can edit or make a note that you can't edit but it would be nice to make one you can't copy. Would make some notes or paintings (hint hint) very valuable.

You see a man in his twenties take a note.

You see a man in his twenties leave...

You see Local offical say: Stop that man he just stole a one of kind Bishoff painting.
Somehow you strayed and lost your way,
and now there'll be no time to play,
no time for joy,
no time for friends
- not even time to make amends.
You are too naïve if you do believe life is innocent laughter and fun.

That would be nice, but being a web based game makes this much more difficult due to html. Even if the html was made unopenable, computers still have the function of copy and paste. I think this is a case where you have to work your own logic onto the cantr world.

A note that cannot be copied with some kind of unique image inserted, ...

That could make a perfect IOU.

Take a bank, and there you have freely transportable bank notes.

That would make an enormous difference.

That's not a big programming challenge, I suppose. I would give it a try, that's for sure.

That would be a CR breach. The CR is a must anyway.

but you can find the url of a picture by looking at the properties and then you could put it into what ever notes you want. so even without editing or copying allowed, you could still copy a note.

Yes but those would be fakes. There are ways i would be able to tell my note from another persons. If they had to recreate the note all together. but with the copy button I can't do anything cause the system makes it perfect.

I was thinking of a way to make bank notes myself, the problem I ran into was how you could tell the difference between a fake and a real one...the are html things you can do that makes it impossible to right click and look at the properties of things I know

Perhaps something similar to the coin press idea. Whatever material the note was written upon would be intricately made, perhaps by strange mixes of resources. The text itself would be copiable if some one read it. Even if copy-paste fails, you can write things yourself. This is a reality that needn't be changed, I think.

well really those pages that stop ya right clicking to get a copy of a picture are a waste of time just get yourself a screen capture programme.but besides that it'd be easy to forge any note in the game all you need is a free webspace and a bit of html knowledge and you can copy ingame note.

I'm willing to bet I can make a note you can't forge without just clicking the copy button already built into the game.

There could always be a border or some sort, of the page a different colour to show that the page is an original (Because you would have to try pretty hard with HTML in the note to copy it).

But what's the point? Forgery is fun :D

But isn't that the point to make it hard but not impossible...

No.

The point is to allow notes to not be copied, and if people were to copy it with Copy/Paste, Screenshot, or copying the source and making a new note would be a rule break (Because you'd be going against Game Mechanics to do something. So it would be cheating, really)

I disagree there. How do you make a note in the first place. Type, copy/paste, eta eta...
