4+ days to break a lock?

Postby returner » Sun Nov 29, 2009 2:53 am

Since when did it take so long to break locks!

Any ideas why this is taking so long? It is a vehicle lock by the way, is that why?

Also my character is at about 50% hunger.. but is quite strong and not injured or tired... hmmm

Thanks all.

Being hungry makes characters tired and I thought trying to break lock only took one day.

The number of attempts vs luck to succeed... well that's kinda "up in the air". ALSO: Like any other project, the more people working on it the quicker it takes... I'm not sure if it increases luck of success, however.

Success is all random Jeff, so it would/could happen to anyone. My personal record is 3 days though.

No I don't mean attempts.. I mean the length of a singular project has taken 3 days so far and I expect it'll take another day before it's over :P

An example.. I started doing it at 9am in my time.. checked Cantr and it was updated to 4% by 1pm.. so technically it was going to take 100 hours to complete when it should take 24 hours (even though cantr says theres 8 hours in a day, so it should take 8 hours).

It's cool, not complaining, just curious. So if hunger is the cause, that explains it. But my character definitely isn't tired.

It's going to take one REAL LIFE DAY for an attempt.

Anything that has chance, won't necessarily be done in one day if it says one day. Chance works funny that way...

Huh? It is a singular project which has taken three days. I thought, after a 1 day project, it told you whether it broke or not, then you had to try again.. Snake_byte, I'm pretty sure I explained that before, that sarcasm was unnecessary and you sort of embarrased yourself there..

Embarrassment is a state of mind that I can control... So not really...
I didn't catch what you meant, that it hadn't told you that you were unsuccessful. Well I think it's supposed to...
Did you try canceling and attempting again?

Are you picking a locked lock or destroying an unlocked lock? According to the wiki:
Locks can be destroyed with a screwdriver and crowbar. The lock must be open, and the project must be started in the same room or vehicle as the lock. The project takes 3 days and (unlike lockpicking) always succeeds. Everyone on either side of the locked door hears the initiation of the lock destruction project.

Perhaps there's also a skill involved, which your character is possibly awkward at? I don't remember if there is or not.

Cheers. Sorry for being somewhat aggressive, Snake_byte, it was just frustrating because I couldn't figure it out and then you jump on and make a sarcastic comment :)

Rob, that explains it, I was actually destroying the lock completely, not picking it haha. Stupid me.

Thanks a bunch everyone. :D

I apologize as well, though it wasn't sarcasm but a POOR attempt at humour...

honest question, is there a hidden gene for luck?
in terms of lock breaking, i do have a couple chars with a real knack, any time attempting to break a lock, well about 80% of the locks tried are popped on the first success, but i do have a few chars that, may as well commit suicide if they ever were in an urgent position to pick a lock because it took nearly a cantr year for one to pop this one lock..... the rest of my chars seem to have an inermediate level of success with breaking locks.
