Yeah, but i'm sure everyones life was afected by those years even if it's only on a subconsious level. Think of it this way. A child who is beaten every day for the first 10 years then their parents stop as soon as they reach that age should not act the same way as a child who has been pampered for the first 10 years.
At least a brief overview of how the child was treated should be provided when the player gets control of the baby, but I still think the easiest way is to let the player take control of the baby at age 0.

I don't think that would be good.
As "The industrialist" pointed out it would be dreadfully boring to have a child that you can't do anything with for the first years, and even later on there would be a lot of bad RP side effects and possible CR breaches.
Since it can also be hard for some to see dead 2 year olds I think it is better if the baby was merely an object that you have to take care of for the first years.
Perhaps it could be programmed to need comfort, food etc. or react by crying and similar things...

Perhaps not as old as 10, but since you don't remember things from your earliest years there is even realistic reasons for not RPing them.
Right, might be a little late but what do you mean by this?
I can remember things from when i was 2 years old. If someone wanted to rp something from that early then why not? He could remember it..

Role-playing children
Ok first this is my first post, so I think I am doing it right.
Perhaps what there could be is a program addition in that the adult characters could sign in to be 'parents' and then when you make a new character you could set it up as a Adult or Child before the name screen. and hook up the children to the next person who is on the list. The person will be removed, and the next charcter wanting a child will be on there. There would be a introdction line when a child is born to someone such as: You see the first view of (characters) son/daughter. Or it could pop up a message to the parents as it does when a project is finished.
This way there is no 'computer kid' but real 'people' kids. I have a friend who started this game and she wants to play a kid. I have RPed as a child before in some in-person games and events.
I had a similar feature on a game I used to run when I was a teenager, of course my BF had to program it for me.

*Cheers*
I am so excited about that possibility.
But what about diapers?
Older people don't poo, so I suppose babies shouldn't either.
When will this be implemented?
I can't wait!!!!!!!!! Believe it or not, I read all 22 pages
I have no real life, only Cantr.

This is how childhood should be presented IG
My Great Idea
(Which I've said before, but in case no one noticed...)
Pregnancy. Approximately 15 days. Increasing tiredness, travel speed decreasing, max carriable weight reducing.
Giving birth. 5 to 15 hours, approximately 8. The mother cannot work on projects, travel except in a vehicle driven by someone else, cannot go to or leave from a building but can be dragged.
The baby stage. Until the age of 1 to 3, may vary. The baby is an object. Will most likely make noise if starving or hurt. Easiest way to handle feeding is to increase slightly the amount of food eaten for the person carrying the baby. Babies are like big weapons, they show up in the character description.
(Longer time of computer operated level would be stupid because:
1) No one will bother to take care of such a tamagotchi-like creature for hundreds of days. They need human response.
2) I'm sure many people want children implemented so that they could play such a creature, and have childhood experience, a background. If you can't remember anything because you weren't really there, the whole idea will be screwed up.)
The childhood. Until the age of 8. The character is player-operated. It can speak, it can move, it can punch (weakly). Cannot use weapons or tools. Strenght 30% of adult level, affecting max carriable weight, travel speed, working speed, eating. Cannot start projects. Cannot work alone on projects. Cannot work on projects that require machinery or tools. It would be good if children could be picked up and placed to inventory, so they'd be half-objects in a way.
Preteens. Until the age of 12. Strenght 60% of adult level, affecting max carriable weight, travel speed, working speed, eating. Can use weapons and tools. Cannot use machinery.
Youth. Until the age of 18. Strenght 80% of adult level, affecting max carriable weight, travel speed, working speed. Can use machinery.
Adulthood. 18 and up. The level of old newspawns, no weakness. Fully operational.

I certainly hope so...but it should probably be called something like "breed" or "procreate" so that the moralists who think Cantr can be sued if they bring sexual content into the allready murderous society will be satisfied.
I think the implementation of children will be the most important thing that will ever happen to Cantr.

Re:Sueing
You could always sue Jos. *shrug*
Re:project
I don't mean to be perverse, but if procreation is made a project, then should you put the participant limit at two or should it be more? The thing is that the more people joining in the faster the project would be.
You could also make tow seperate types, one for procreation, one for recreation. One of couse requiring a contraceptive 'tool'. Proabably made from hide or even silk.
This has probably already been mentioned before anyway.

Contriceptives
Before condoms nowadays, birth control was from herbs, and using skin from sheep. It's very possible...
