"You are hungry" Warning becoming more severe

Postby Zisrith » Tue Nov 17, 2009 6:27 pm

I currently have a character who's travelling from one area to another, and hasn't had any food for some time. I've noticed that every update has been the same words over and over: "You are hungry"
My suggestion is that as your character becomes more hungry it uses different warnings, perhaps starting at "You're feeling a little hungry" When your character just recently ran out of food, and ranging to "You are very hungry" and "You are starving".
This could let a player know how close their character is to death without having to check their character's status. This could make things both more convenient and a little less boring sounding.

Good idea! Maybe then less characters will die because of hunger? Hope so...

And perhaps the closer your char comes to dead because of starvation, the larger the letters become?

I would rather use alternative messages than font size since we need to take visually impaired players into account. This shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

We could use levels... You are a little bit hungry, you are you are hungry, you are very hungry?...You are dead.

Only problem I see is when people do it on purpose OR when that's the only thing on your character screen.

In which case it'll go ignored but nothing "bad" in that instance.

It would be nice if such things like "You are hungry" etc were "easier to see"... ESPECIALLY in big areas. Sometimes people "forget to eat", ya know.

Perhaps the hunger font colour could be different so it's more noticeable? I know I'd notice if I saw blue text amongst all the white and orange text.

It doesn't necessarily have to be blue, just any color other than the white and orange text everyone's used to, so it stands out

Red? Though it would have to be bold, as I don't think it would be seen well on the green.

Can't see the point of all this. If you can't be bothered to look after your chars and let them die, that's your problem.
If you get the "hungry" message you can look at the char description page to see how severe it is.

It's not entirely about making it easier to see, in my opinion it's a bit irritating when you're traveling without food to only see a big tower of "You are hungry"s.
It would make things a bit more interesting if they'd have some variety, and while it may not mean the difference between your life and your death, it could also save you a bit of time if web pages don't load as quickly for you

OK then. As it's been accepted then I'd like to suggest you don't use fancy fonts/colours - this game needs to be as much as possible usable by blind people, so change the messages to "you are very hungry" and "you are starving" at pre-determined levels.
(Have the fancy fonts/colours as well, of course, if you think it necessary.)

I've long advocated font changes for certain things, but it's always been rejected for various reasons. I think Cantr is a one-font game, and always will be.
