Ammunition

Postby Gunther_01 » Sat May 08, 2004 12:19 pm

Don't know if this has been suggested elsewere, and if it has tell me, but instead of having different types of bow you would have to make your own ammunition. There would be different types of arrows (or bolts in the case of crossbows):
Wooden:100g wood, 10g feathers, minimum damage.
Iron:100g wood, 10g feathers, 20g iron,Harder to get, have better chance of puncturing armour.
Steel:100g wood, 10g feathers, 20g steel, Maximum damage

You could construct them in quivers of 5 or ten arrows.

Also if this is impracticle, I would like to see a change in the bow types:
Short Bow |
Bow | These are made out of wood only
Longbow |
Crossbow Pistol (ie: small, light and hurt like hell) | These are made
Crossbow | of wood and steel

20g iron do less damage than 20g of steel?

Lets do the physics. How good a projectile is determined by velocity and weight. The velocity comes from the weapon it self (bow, crossbow) and weight, yeah, all the types of arrow wieght the same, so that shouldn't change on how much "damage" it would inflict.

Let say we compare with an arrowhead made of copper and lead. And let say the weight is about.... 50g. 50g lead isn't that much and the head should be a deacent size. While the copperhead would be much larger to meet the 50g weight. You know, one kilo of lead and one kilo of feathers, guess wich pile will be the big one :D

Then we have to remember how the metal react on impact. A leadbullet (or arrowhead this time) would "mushroom" directly upon impact, while the copperhead would remain intact (fullmetalljacket bullet, yeah I know my ammo).

Let say the copper would be great to penetrate armor, while the lead is better against flesh as it creates a greater wound.

Now I don't know what kind of metals there are in Cantr as I recently joined, but thats my two cents in this thread.

Yeah, let's talk realism about materials when you can build a house with 25 kilos of stone ;)

lol.

"Let say the copper would be great to penetrate armor, while the lead is better against flesh as it creates a greater wound."

But that should be in mind when/if they decide to add this to the game.

Yeah...do you think it should be implemented before or after armor? :)

I think your idea is good, and as far as I understand the programming department is allready working on it...or at least plan to do so.
(not exactly how you said it, but with ammo for the bows...)

As for ammunition, this is already being discussed and is in a big hat. And when we pull that piece of paper out... we'll get to it ;)

As for the bow types, don't worry, they're being changed. ALL/Most weapons are being changed, if you've yet to notice. But no information will be indulged. You'll have to sit and wait on your butts, just like everyone else. :)

Hey, just think of all the Cantrians as being the size of underpants gnomes (you know, those gnomes from South Park).

Let's talk about the wieght system a little. I've only been on cantr for bout 2 months and I've figured out that 20 kilos in cantr is NOT 20 kilos in reality. It uses the same system just different values.

*clap*

Very good, Snake.

Yes, it's true. 'grams' and 'hours' and yes, even 'minutes' and 'years' do not equal their IRL counterparts. They're more like guidelines.
