Change when newspawns appear

Postby SekoETC » Thu Oct 08, 2009 4:07 pm

[To avoid having so many characters who never wake up] it would be better if characters only spawned for real when the player clicked on him or her for the first time. It could just enter them in the database as pending and create the "you see X you haven't seen before" event when the person clicks on the character and change status to active.

Moved to the suggestions topic.

The only bad thing I can think of is that by spawning when the account is accepted, players get to see all the events that accumulated before they logged in. Such events are useful for a variety of reasons, especially if they're directed at the newspawn.

They'll get to see those events in time anyways, like the introductions and welcomes. Does it matter if they are accumulated before or after first log in?

Edit: Oh yeah, by the way I like this. I think it'll help to make the character page less intimidating to not have to try to read and understand a bazillion things right off the bat.

What about the possibility of CRB if you have a hidden "spy" unnoticed char? Or the newspawn thief awaiting his moment when loads of goodies are lying around?
Or have I got it wrong and the player doesn't see anything that goes on either until that first click in the dark?

The player doesn't see anything. ... The character doesn't spawn until they actually click on them for the first time.

That's how I understood it. *shrugs*

I was thinking that having accumulated events might convince them that there is some life in the town, and be a bit patient and wait for someone to reply to them. I'm not saying it's a serious concern...

Your tons of events overload kind of checks it, though.
