Cantr Organizations

Postby Harame » Fri Sep 25, 2009 7:17 am

Group, Clan, Order, Tribe, Knighthood, Family, Company. Call it anything you want, the underlying principle is the same. A group of like minded people, who band together for mutual comfort and support. It is the basic civilization instinct of human kind, and it is as prevalent in Cantr, as it is in the real world. Does anyone have any interesting organizations, or facts thereof, about said organizations?

Probably the most famous are the McGregors and the Stone Knights... but taking a different tack:
In Kwor's old days there was a system of division of labour for the good of the town with guilds of farmers, carpenters, seafarers, miners. When the population was high enough - over 80 at one stage, this all worked very well, but as in RL, as people got richer they became more individualistic. Also the population decreased considerably and the last I knew, the whole shebang had collapsed.

Thanks for that, 'tiddy ogg.'
I just thought that I would add that I am attempting to collect this information, as part of a little study I am doing about Cantr organizations. Anyone who meaningfully Contributes is welcome to ask for a copy.

I think the Blackrocks are also pretty famous.

Don't know much about them.... I do know they started on K island and where nearly destroyed and that they went to Omeo and that some captain was recruiting people from all over the island to go to Omeo to kill the remaining Blackrocks. But that was a long time ago way before I started to play.

There is kingdom on the rise... with a sleeping king...

There's plenty of cults and secret organisations in the dark. A lot are no longer practiced though.

Harame, one of my characters is an amateur Blackrock historian. If you PM me an address, I can send you all the notes he has about them, which is considerable. I also had 2 characters alive at the time of their existence on Noniwrok (K-isle), so I can fill in most blanks that the notes leave.

@Harame, yes I suppose it is human instinct in reality and in games to build "tripes" (however you may call it)

In economic theory there is for example the paradoxon, that altough we always say how great markets are, what do we find when we look there? Not people acting on markets, but people coming together in "companies". Why is there a company that in its inner structure is so unmarketlike. Amont explanations like transactionscosts or so, it may also be, people find more comfort in coming together in a "tribe" to do work, than acting as a lot of self-employed.

The Blackrocks work well enough, from what I have seen, but they are not so much a tribe as a dictatorship, sorry Randy.

I mean... I think that counts, kinda, but in general its one female "in charge", sorry again, and other people listen OR ELSE. Or else what, you ask? Or else they die! However, when looking "past that" the Blackrocks are a very tight knit group that defiantly look out for its own and friends of its own. Things are well organized by more then just "that one female" (We all know who I'm talking about but I wanna not put forth names) but these people directly report to said female. So that's kinda... eh.

Blackrocks, and friends of the tribe, are generally free to do just about anything provided the lead female agrees its "okay". Heck I've seen people get away with some weird stuff only because the dictator queen said, "Oh well... whatever, I don't care."

The MacGreggors work the same, from what I've seen, except they are a bit less forgiving (at least in comparison to as forgiving as the Blackrocks actually are) and remain a LOT more insular.

Again, from what I've seen of the Stone Knights the same aspect is true of the MacGreggors but instead of one person it is more group oriented.

To be honest I've not seen more then these three really show what a "group is" or "can do". Anything else is short lived or put down by these three groups before anything can be done otherwise. A business only works as well as the one person working it because his workers will eventually fall asleep... or kill him/her and take it.

One thing about those three groups is its the ONLY place in Cantr where true loyalty actually is.... even if it is obtained through force and/or fear. Otherwise you gotta realize that no one can really be trusted, not even that god-fearing-non-violent veggie-eater.

Dudel really must not have been around back in the good ol days.

Dourden has been around a long long time, and if the templars are who I think they are then they also have been around for awhile.

I thought the templars are dead. I continuesly see some of their buildings on travling around, some with notes, but never happened to meet a live character of them.
