Weird bit of sea

Postby *Wiro » Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:29 pm

There's a narrow river-like part of the sea that streams through two islands. It is, however, impossible to get through. Once you *do* get through its first part (then stumble on the second part, which just seems an invisible wall) you're pretty much stuck there. :S

Is it possible for this sea to be made bigger or for the ship stuck in it to be placed somewhere else?

I've heard a lot about invisible walls on the seas. I have actually stumbled upon some. They were never a problem though, as they were in open seas. Rarely heard of them in a channel, which might be a problem.

Well it doesn't seem like there's a way out like this...

It is possible to reposition ships through the database but I've only done it once since it's rather difficult. It would require knowing which direction the boat needs to be moved to and how far away, which generally requires seeing the in-game map.

It can be moved to direction 180 about 2cm. It's free sea there, but the wall is in between. If it is possible for it to be moved then that would be great. I can screenshot the map too and PM it to you if you need it.

If we're talking about a sea-lane so narrow that it's nearly impossible to navigate (which is what it sounds like), the best fix would be to alter the shore-line. Wiro, could you PM/email me a screenshot of the area, along with the name of the island if you know it?

In the mean time, hopefully Seko can move you.

It's not even that narrow I think. I'll PM you. It's weird how they got in there only by sailing at 5 speed -- that worked for several days. But 10 speed or higher did not work, always resulted in the ship stopping.

Shore line does not necessarily correspond to the visual representation. There are many places where you can sail over the coast, or get stopped too early while away from shore. Sailing at >10 probably would have just put you into a coast, while sailing slower kept you in the water.

But thing is, the boat went like that for several days (at 5), meaning it eventually added up to far beyond 10.

And based on where it is, I think "It's not you, it's me" applies here. I'd bet on the ship being the problem (without knowing anything at all other than where it is).

Did you try undocking in another vessel and moving?

There was no other vessel. So, no.

There is exactly one like this between the islands of the original Spanish Zone and sailors have found the way to sail through it for years.

Since it is almost certainly the very same straight, you maybe should tell Wiro how. Or is such a thing considered in-game information? Like hidden reefs of something.

I'm guessing it will be possible to sail on with an appropriate speed and direction, but since shore lines aren't exactly how they are graphically represented, figuring out the right direction and speed might be difficult. I think I should wait until I'm properly rested before moving the boat or it might end up in Narnia.

This is in-game information and many of us have solved it IC already. It would be unfair to solve it for any player OOCly.
