Whose boat is it?

Postby Elros » Sun Aug 30, 2009 12:52 pm

One of my characters is way out in the middle of the ocean, at least 3 years of travel in a longboat away from any land. He just came across a longboat floating out here called "The Sea Dweller". The notes and logs in it all date back to Day 450-500! I have never found notes and diarys so old before, and I am wondering if this little boat has been sitting out here since way back then. There are even notes in there talking about collecting iron straight out of the ground.

I was just wondering if anyone on here knew anything about this ship, or if the player was still here on the forums. Most of the notes make it look like the boat owner was possibly from Sring-Sri or near there.

If you have any knowledge of the history of this boat then just PM me, thanks. ;)

I once found a boat in the ocean and the only note on it was a primitive map of a small area of the treefeather continent dated back to ~200.

Yeah it used to be that way! :)

Want to see something even cooler off of that ship? Look how valuable potatoes used to be!

The residents of Bhak have decided they do not wish a war with Dhung and are
therefore prepared to set up a reasonable trade agreement with the monarchy. We will
provide you with potatoes and sugar in exchange for iron and weapons. Potatoes will
be farmed and traded gram for gram for iron
...sugar will be granted on a per item
basis which is still negotiable at this time. Only 1 person from Dhung will bring the
iron or weapons and pick up the resources we have readied for them. We have already
sent emissaries to Sring-sri and Nraam to request reinforcements to prevent any act
of war upon us.

 Yeah I know! Some of the others notes on that boat pertained to what was going on with Dhung and Shai and stuff and it sounded like the whole place was a warzone!

Apart from lovers fighting everywhere, pirates comitting suicide, several threats and crazy chicks going "FUCK YOU" against the whole town... yeah, it's a pretty lovely place now. :D

I'm a great fan of little archeological findings like that, thanks for posting.

On a side note it's pretty funny to look back on those times, digging straight iron from the ground was nothing compared to actually being able to fight wars, you know, where you can actually kill your enemy. Since then we've succeeded at nerfing everything in a misguided attempt to "preserve player investments".

We preserved them, alright. Things are so perfectly preserved now it's practically a formaldehyde stasis chamber, and not only on that island - all over Cantr. But we (oldbie players) are as usual in denial about everything.

"It's a slowpaced game...", blah-blah-blah, rattle on the excuses. Fine, we're getting our way aren't we? And if we ever get nostalgic about when Cantr still had some real wars, excitement, opportunity and strife, we can always read about it in notes from day 400-500.

Me too! :)

I love to find little pieces of history in Cantr and see IC what it was like back then. Finding that boat was a very stimulating experience for me as a player. Makes me wonder how many boats are actually floating out there on the sea just waiting to be found...

That boat belonged to Willy Hound. He was a General in the Dhung Iron Guard. Potatoes and sugar were not that important, Dhung went and took what they wanted because they were the only ones to have iron shields and sabres vs wooden shields and bows. That is Bhak trying to act important and get the metal they desperately needed.

Willy built the Sea Dweller and sailed to the mainland but couldn't find his way back to Sring-Sri. He finally died of starvation, lost at sea. He was one of my favorite characters. He deserved such a fate for the horrible genocide he took part in.

Awesome! Thanks a lot for telling me who it belonged too. I was really curious. There was no body in it when I found it since obviously it has been so long it disapeared. It was WAY out in the ocean for a longboat. I was in a raker with every possible sail you can build on it, and it over half a year away from any land.

Where was he headed, and why was he so far out?

Was it to the north? I can imagine boats lingering there, but not in the south... west and east even less likely.
