Trains

Postby Yaddy1 » Fri Aug 21, 2009 3:36 am

Now that fuel consumption's in (I think) its high time to prepare for the future! The next step should be trains. After expressway comes expressway with railway. Trains would be able to hail a HUGE amount of cargo, but would be slightly slower than cars and consume large amounts of coal. Railways would cost huge amounts of iron to create, same with trains, but it would be worth it. You could even have multiple train cars linked together like buildings.

Yeah I think trains will be awesome. I am sure we have disscussed this before and if we search it there will be a thread for it.

I love trains. I'm not even joking. Like, not in a technical kind of way, like how someone loves computers. They're just cool, I've got no idea how they work so they're like steam powered magic that make big puffy clouds of smoke. And when you're on a cool train like that it more or less like invites you to do sound effects too. Serious.

Let's also make it impossible to have locks on it. True public transit - the expressway with monorail; though of course various evil people could still take it over by force if they wanted by having permanent guards on it. It would be only one train per stretch of road (two towns always share one train), which can zip back and forth over that one stretch only. I think that'd be the best way to handle that!

Technically the train could probably be implemented as a unique type of building that can shift location from one town to the other, and can only be built once you lay the rail. :D

It's rather easy to code a train actually. It would be technically a vehicle, but one which can use onl specyfic type of road which we would have to add: a railroad.

The only difficulty is that we need an option to build a railroad which is independent of existing roads.

Can we do that?

Trains were borne of necessity. I don't see a necessity for the transport of large quantities of people in Cantr at this time, at least not in the English zone.

Maybe not large amounts of people, but perhaps large amounts of resources? :?:

Perhaps it would be more wise to implement a steam wagon, a steam powered vehicle that moves on the road. I'm not sure if that's in the spirit of this suggestion though.
Pretty in pink.

We can implement trains just for the sake of trains.
They don't have to be necessary, according to the laws of cantreality, now do they?

A way to move huge quantities of goods would be pretty useful. Like with mining companies that have huge of hematite to transport. Also you wouldn't even have to code in a separate type of road. It would just be the final upgrade past expressway. Imagine a robber disconnecting a train car filled with steel. That would be awesome.

But... They wouldn't be rob-able while on the road..?

Yes, because if they're useless, no on will bother building them. Anyone that has the technology and resources to build a train can build a van or a bus. They serve the same purpose.

Limousine is useless too. Unless you're awesome. (;))
