Why do you call them American? Its the Imperial system of measurements. One of the british things the americans really can't let go of!

Well because I knew it had a name, since I read it 30 times in the thread, but when it came time for me to post my reply. I couldn't remember what it was and the back button was just 3 inches to far for my tastes so I just improvised.

In America we call it the English System rather than American or Imperial. At least around where I live that is what we call it.

Well, me being english, I supose I should know the right name. :D Imperial, presumably because it dates from the times of the British Empire.

My country tis of thee...

Bah, c'mon my fellow Americans! A little pride for our way of spelling over here! It's theater, honor, tomatoes, center, and the "h" in herb is silent! Didn't we fight a war over this or something?

Two peoples separated by a common language... (can't remember who said that, would acknowledge them otherwise)

Oh, and it's my theory that the French language stole all the vowels out of Welsh.

Aren't the U.S. and Austria? the only two countries who mainly use the english system, while basically the whole rest of the world uses the metric?

We use it a lot unofficially. Pints of beer and milk, miles for speed limits, miles per gallon for efficiency...

AoM, sorry to steal your thunder, but I believe you just stole 10 minutes of a comic special and put it into post form. I can't remember the guys name though.

@Swymir: Well, most of it was an answer to the words already brought up. If I'm correct, you're thinking of Eddie Izzard's stand up routine where he was bashing American-English for not pronouncing the "h" in herb.

Anywho, guilty as charged on that one reference, although I think it's an appropriate usage. After all he's British too, and I am arguing against British spelling.

I haven't heard the Welsh comment anywhere else tho. :)

Eddie Izzard rocks my socks.

And yours, too.
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.
