good idea. And simple to implement. However, rather cosmetic..Rtaher have other things take priority.

How is being able to gather food at sea to sustain yourself cosmetic? :?

For those who haven't memorized the entire Cantr wiki, you gotta realize that eggs can be boiled/scrambled to make pretty decent healing food, and also are the ingredient for several other nice food types.

1) There is already a way to catch food at sea - using nets to catch fish. There is no need to make another mechanism to produce food on ships.

2) Fish are water-based animals. Since characters can't go into the water to hunt, they are treated differently than land-based animals. This is why they are gathered like resources, and why, despite pleading on my hands and knees, I wasn't allowed to add whales.

3) Beehives -

3a) Bees cannot compare to the other insects in the game, such as the scarab or the titan beetle, as these insects are obviously gigantic versions of their real-world counterparts. It would be absurd for a normal sized scarab to survive multiple attacks with a crossbow and yield enough shell to make a shield from. Normal sized insects would never be coded into the game in a traditional animal capacity. In fact, I can go ahead right now and change the animal entries to reflect their giant status.

3b) It was never intended for bees to be put into the game as animals. It is for chickens. When my tools get fixed, there is an island, somewhere, that's supposed to be getting chickens.

4) Doing this is acceptance that animal domestication will never happen. If you make a chicken coop (which needs chickens to incubate the eggs, the grain requirement being acknowledgment of this), then you can make an argument for implementing all kinds of machines that utilize animals. Why not stalls for immobilizing cows for milking or sheep for shearing? Nevermind if those animals don't actually exist on those islands.

If you can sway me on all 5 points, I'll move this back to Suggestions.

So, Doug, why is there potatoes, carrots and asparagus on land when we might as well just have just potatoes there? If that thing applies to the sea, then it should apply to land as well. I don't agree that people shouldn't be able to have another way of having food at sea.

As for chickens etc. This suggestion isn't about chickens anymore. It's about anything that hatches from an egg. No chickens involved necessarily. Cows need to be born from other cows. Birds can be born from eggs.

Somehow I read this as "... Cows need to be born from other eggs..."

1) Doug: No need for a new way to get food at sea.
Egghead committee: Yes there is. Why not?

2) Doug: I wasn't allowed to add whales.
Egghead committee: There, there.

3) Doug: There is an island out there SOMEWHERE which might be getting chickens if my tools get fixed. Maybe. So you can't have chickens, it would be a weird dupe.
Egghead committee: Good for them, but why should that stop us from getting the incubator boxes? The consensus is that they are to use "generic" egg, not chicken.

2) Doug: Doing this is giving up on animal domestication.
Egghead committee: Let domestic ponies be our motivation, going forward, for heaven's sake, let's not wait another 10 years until that happens when we could have had the egg incobator boxes in the game yesterday without trouble and for the fun and profit of all. They can work side by side with the ponies and everything else that we all hope will eventually be implemented.

That is also the reason why no one is suggesting cow stalls or sheep shearing stations, though they'd be possible and simpler than domestic animals. But poutry is always a kind of "add on" and not the centerpiece of a typical farm, a lot like a beehive.

How dare he reject it just because he wasn't allowed to add whales? :D :D

Time for me to admit an ulteriour motive here. I spent many happy months in my early childhood reading everything possible about the biology of chickens and their rearing, and had an ambitious (for a 6-year-old) project to incubate my own chicks in a tiny city flat where I lived. I had prepared the portable boxes to exacting scientific specifications, procured special halogen lamps, arranged the right temperature - everything to let my lovely chicks hatch into their artificial Eden.

Sadly, the project was veto'ed by mother. I never got to do it.

I NEVER GOT TO DO IT!

:D :D

Sad story!
Your life long dream! Veto'ed by mom!

If that is your life's wish, you must be quite pathetic.

I'm unamused, and have yet to see any serious, logical arguments. I have already explained why your continued arguments that chicken coops use eggs and not chickens is invalid. Repeating it doesn't get you any further.

Right, now, all I see is that we should add chicken coops because Cogliostro wants chicken coops.

There's enough logical arguments up there from what I can see. I don't see why one person should get to decide what happens.

Because I'm the Shepherd and also on GAB. This suggestion does not fit either the current state of Cantr, or the future outlook. Therefore, it's been rejected.
