possible known bug: eating

Postby lulkoek » Wed Jul 29, 2009 8:04 am

I just had this happen to one of my characters:

2681-7.31: Je at 705 gram van je wortelen.

2680-7.32: Je at 117 gram van je wortelen.

Thing is that I was trying to gather enough carrots to walk the world a bit, but now my character ate almost as much as she can dig up in a single day? It has always been 117 grams before.

Guess I'll have to delay my trip another day, :( If this doesn't happen again, :P My character suddenly became a glutton!

It's on purpose, it's called eating disease and will last for few days. The reason of the disease is to be found in game.

Is there a remedy to be found in game too then? Cool!

Better have he keep digging then (which I was planning anyway).

Ah, that's to be found out in game, too, just like the sneezes.

How would one know if they have a cure anyway? I know sneezes come and go. At times you can go without a sneeze for days, then sneeze again without any reason as to why.

If someone finds the cure, eats the stuff that stops the sneezing for instance, will they get a message telling: 'you feel suddenly better' or so?

There is a cure. ;) And yes, it is possible for pretty much anyone to cure themselves. And no, you won't get a message saying you got better.

How do you know you found a cure then?

Now no one can become doctor and gather cures and help out the sick *sniffle*

Yeah, but there really is no way to tell that? Certainly not for other players?

I mean:
One of my chars feels faint rather easily, if I send him on a walk, it stops, but as soon as he does something he feels faint again.

Another one just felt faint out of the blue

And then the one mentioned in this thread ate a lot twice and then switched back to normal amounts. But she never looked sick, so I'm not sure if it's just random that she eats less now or if she's really healthy again.

It's not a big issue, but I do think it would be good if people could actually see when someone gets better and such.

This is the problem with these diseases - you only get the symptoms once or twice a day at most, so it takes a long time before you know you're cured. Maybe a comment in the char description box saying something like:
He is in his 20s, he is weaker than average, he looks ill...

It's actually a good idea. You could dedicate your whole life to finiding a cure, but because of the coming and going nature of all the illnesses, you mabye find one day you are no longer ill but you can't single-out what exactly it was that cured you.

A helpful "You know longer feel faint" or "Your nose no longer itches" message would be useful.

When someone has the eating sickness, it says in their character description "He feels a bit faint" but it's not visible to outsiders. While the sneezing has no other indicator but the sneezes. Both the sneezes and the you feel faint message are random, but it's interesting if characters develop an assumption that they are connected to something (for example dust or too much work).

too much work, funny you mentioned that, :)

I have a char that feels faint from time to time and he's sure it is because of heavy work, :D

Felt faint working on a road, went back to fine while travelling, felt faint again when he continued work on the road, got cured again travelling, started digging for silver, felt faint. So now he's only going to do light work, :P

There's nothing random about how these diseases are contracted. So they can be prevented, and maybe cured...

Well, they can only be contacted when a source of infection is present, but there is random variation to whether a particular person in the presence of the source will be infected and also getting the events is random, so it would be possible (although unlikely) that a person could have the sneezes without sneezing any, or have the eating sickness but not feel faint.
