Emotes in bold font.

Postby Drael » Thu Jul 23, 2009 4:06 am

Basically, like FTO. They convert anything in *....* to bold (without the asterixs)

Makes it easier to read, and clearer.

My response to this was...

"The go play FTO!"

I'm sorry. :(

Oh that would be a great way to increase the incidence of migraine in the neighbourhood by 250%.

Remember those of us who can't see a screen. Keep the asterisks, it surely ain't that much of a problem.

He means blind players who use a screen reader.

Wow, it's possible to play Cantr like that? That's neat. Hm, if implemented (I'm against) for that reason something like being able to turn it on/off would be nice.

And then someone who can't type would end up forgetting to include a closing asterisk, or would accidentally use two instead of one, making the rest of the events page appear in bold. Not good... Besides, people use different kinds of emote markers and it's not really standardized. I seem to remember Jos writing something about how he was initially surprised by people using emotes because he never though about that in the first place, but I could be remembering it wrong.

lol... Cantr without emotes. There's a scary thought. Like... Sahara Desert scary.

Seko makes a good point. Entire page in bold... it would happen. It would probably even be a cute trend for a while to just type * when you wanted to piss everyone off.

I forsee people using it to yell in Cantr :D

But yeah, the main thing is the many different styles of emotes.

And like Seko said, whole page of bold. I also completely agree with the issue it would create for those who have visual impairment who play cantr.

I'm too anal to change my RP emotes in cantr just because FTO does it.

I disagree with the suggestion. Mainly because it takes away from the freedom of someone to craft the artwork that is a piece of speech/actions, as well as the potential for errors.

I like it in FTO, but if blind people suddenly can't read emotes anymore, that would be bad.

Bold is already used for whispers to your char in the polish interface.
