Programming Screw Up

Postby swymir » Tue Apr 27, 2004 12:23 am

Ok I actually did some research for this because it makes me look smart to point it out and I didn't want to look like a jackass if I was wrong.

I just noticed that when a moose leaves an area it says 1 mosses left.

Now I know that you can't help that there is only 1 and it says mosses but mosses isn't even a word. More than one moose is still moose. If you believe me go to dictionary.com

It is mooses, by the way. And that is a problem that can't be fixed or that it would be to hard to fix to really make it worth it. I have already made that suggestion.

Also note that there is no such thing as deers, tomatos, and a few others I can't remember right now.

Technically it is not a "progamming screw-up" it is a language screw up of English. A wholly nonsenical syntax that has a pletora of outstanding issues that shant soon be resolved.

How about we go to the Klug counting system...

Instead of

1 sheeps
2 sheeps
3 sheeps
etc...

we go to

sheep
many sheep
many sheep (edit: Klug sleep now)
etc.

No it's definitly 3 moose. Moose is a wierd word but it's not mooses. I've had arguements about this plenty of times. If you can't fix it. Thats ok it's only minor, but it is definitly moose at least according to the dictionary.

You can see the entry right here http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=moose note the n. pl. moose which not only signifies that the plural is moose, but that it is a noun.

I was going to point this out too, but forgot about it. Was too busy with the tomato comment. It is moose for plural. Moose singular. Moose plural. A moose is Canada's like, main animal. We gotta know :P

I just asked my English teacher today. It is definitely tomatoes though some English cultures spell it tomatos but if you go by the correct rules it should be tomatoes.

If you do it under Microsoft Word it underlines tomatos as being incorrect. Tomatoes is the correct plural form of tomato according to both my Webster College Dictionary and Microsoft Word.

But we Americans spell it theater while English spell it theatre.
Honor = Honour
And many other differences.

Also we spell the plural of moose moose too. We have moose around here to. In fact, last year, someone from my town hit a moose. Did more damage to the car than the moose though.
