The problem is that I will still lose the game if the forum has new posts, yet no visible topic within does...

And now I lost it again.

From now on I will find random other forums to post it on.
I advice you to do the same, and let this topic rest.

Here today, gone from the face of the 'net tomorrow; such is the military life. Pardon my oscillating existence.

Stupid Dwarf Fortress attitude.

I lost due to one goblin getting past my defences. It slaughtered all my farmers and nice workers, before I turned everyone into recruits to kill it. It had also killed my two soldiers (one in bed, lower spine hurt from sparring, had been there for almost a year, the other in bed due to more recent wounds), and a crap load of other nice dwarfs.

My Fortress then starved to death.

This is why I make my only entrance either with a lava moat or over the bottomless pit with a series of drawbridges, and of course chained war dogs on each drawbridge 'island' to spot ambushes and the like. Of course, that takes a long time to make, so cruder, interim measures are likely to be taken before that's set up.

The ambush-goblin ran into it and I made up the war dog thing myself already.

My dwarfs were too lazy to pull the drawbridge lever and I only had about 40 dwarfs by the time. But I was amazingly rich, so goblins liked to come on over and.. have a chat.
