No, finding out may not affect RP 'all' the time, but it can affect the OOC feeling and associations with other players... It has happened to me. I played as I always would have, but the other player thought I knew who they played (I didn't) and it caused hard feelings OOC.

I also know someone who changed thier RP mid stream, because they found out who played another charri... went from murderous thoughts to being the lover, all in one sentence.. so even though I didn't search to find the player.. the other person did and it changed the RP for mine.. and that was very disheartening and I felt 'cheated' out of true RP.

(edited for stupid type-o's)

People do that when they find out a person's player? o.o"

Mhm. I've had it happen to me a couple of times. My chars, one in particular, has this bad luck and keeps getting stuck in less than desirable situations for any person, but I get, as Sunni said, "cheated" out of a good RP opportunity because they somehow realize it's me and so I end up in a situation like what Sunni said.

... That was a helluva lot more words than necessary to just say Yes.

Sure hope I didn't do anything. x]

I do agree that knowing a person's player can change the rp. I have found myself doing that same thing. Not from murderous to lover but close. Like if I have realized that I am letting my feelings in real life affect my chars, and I know the player, I have been like I am having a bad day so please disregard what was said or something like that. And it has ruined things for the other player when they have played along, or stayed with this char because of what I have said ooc. And for that person I have done that to, I do sincerely apologize.

Since that time of finding out who plays who, I have come to the conclusion that regardless of how bad I want to know who is behind what char, I don't want to talk to the player. It does change things.

The only thing I can say I like about knowing a player, is that you can end up with some great friendships. I have met several people who have become close friends of mine.

I do agree that knowing the player can change something in IC relationship. For me most of the time it works the other way, though, as I usually 'know' the charrie better than the player him/herself. I tend to project my feelings (note: not my charries feelings, but mine) about the other player's charrie on my feeling about that player. Although I guess it's not that far away from truth, as my opinion about a charrie is usually a opinion about it's player's creativity and RP abilities

But - on the topic - I don't see a point in it. If you don't wan't to know who the player is, don't check on 'I am' topics, that's all. If the player feels like going out screaming 'hey, it's me! I'm playing John Smith!' he's got a right to do it, and the 'I am' topics are made for it - and so the people who feel that knowing players identyties could spoil their fun can feel safe on the whole rest of the forum.

Edit: some missclicks and balistic punctation... call me cap. Carrot

I have to admit.... If I know a person already from the forums and I think I have met another of his or her chars in game... I can't resist sending a message to that player.
