People can have whisper sex where they want,. since it's just the involved consentual players involved. And if they slip up, we handle it. This forces "slip-ups" I seriously need a solution to fix what issues this will cause with regards to my afforementioned post.SekoETC wrote:Yes, that is a very good question. Although people probably shouldn't be having sex in public. They could already slip if the player accidentally puts it in the talk to all box instead of the other box and still expose themselves. But that's still a good argument for making listening dependent on choice.

Rebma19 wrote:I actually have a question regarding the sex-whisper issue. In Cantr, there are a lot of people who don't like to see/read sex RP. Generally people are able to tell their "partner/abuser/whatever" about this in some RPing way, or ooc if all else fails. It is their choice whether they are involved in that or not, and when players refuse to listen to their requests not to have to read that content, it comes to us in the form of a PD complaint.
The fact that some of these people might be exposed to the content they do not want to see, without any choice of their own, could potentially offend quite a few people, and ruffle feathers. As well as taking away their freedom of choice, ya know?
What do you plan to do to adress this, as it an issue as PD that I am very concerned about...?
I still think it is strange to be having sex in public without anyone seeing it, so the problem should be with the ones having sex in public, not with the ones that do not like sexual content nor the overhearing feature.

Unfortunately that's not the case. Since whispers were, until now, 100% private, despite what would be possible IRL, in this simulated society, whispering could hide you, your actions, and your words. I think that's the reason whispering was put in. (not 100% the sex part, the hiding your words part). People have talked about this before, and most agree they will RP *going behind a building* Or others assume they have, or are being careful about it. *shrugs* REGARDLESS...it's going to cause some serious issues if/when people hear that sort of content.Caesar wrote:Rebma19 wrote:I actually have a question regarding the sex-whisper issue. Issues which need to be addressed and hopefully fixed.

Not like I was turning it off now, but that might be the decision after Doug comes back (he's off for the weekend). Some people might not be able to hold back public sex for a couple of weeks.
But the funny thing is that characters shouldn't be aware of the ability to overhear whispers vanishing, so they should go on thinking it might happen again, at least if they experienced it personally.

How about emotes being automatically visible. Really one cant hide from people if your doing some action or showing an emotion.
In fact they shouldnt be under "such and such says this" anyway. They should come up seperated, no?
In faerytale they put the emotes automatically in a bolded font, for anything that has asterix's on each side. That would be nice in cantr.
As for this overhearing thing, well it kind of makes sense, and could make whispering more realistic and create some interesting RP situations. Conversely, if someone is say, swimming in the beach, and someone else is over standing by a building, their overhearing doesnt make RP sense.

But there are players who emote differently. I've met someone who used -- instead of **, and another who used ^.^ this kind of face sans **. Both of them played another language, so I couldn't ask them to stop if I wanted to. The point is though that people will just put actions in something else when whispering.

I've been a forum lurker for a while, I've posted a handful of times, here's my two cents (keep in mind I have NOT read through the entire topic, I've read a couple posts).
I really don't like the idea very much. The whole point of whispering was to tell someone/do something that others couldn't hear/see. Some may argue it makes the game more 'realistic'. But as it is, the game is very unrealistic, and it will likely remain that way forever, unless all the programmers decide to start actively working on it again. So, I think it's not much of an improvement. I guess if I was wondering what someone was whispering about, I might catch a word or two, but I think it was fine the way it was before and I'm going to be forced to go inside on more occasions now.

Ahh but if the emotes came up bolded, rather than in asterix's, like in FTO, then they would only be considered emotes when presented so. People would stop using other characters, because they wouldnt come up as emotes. Of coure if people are trying to hide there actions, they might still avoid this, but thats also plausible, they could be hiding behind a building. And with the overhearing rule, they still could be heard/seen. I guess though it doesnt entirely address the problem, but its a start. I mean, it would make it bad form RP to use other characters or such...
And as far as emotes being visible to others, if people were good RP'ers theyd allow there expressions and such to be overheard...
As for the sex thing, well I think you should simply put up a rule thats made clear like the capital rule: No cybering in public places. Of course youd need to put it delicately. I mean, in fact it should really be made clear in general that sexually explicit content can result in complaints and issues for other players anyway...
Some of this whispering stuff is really abusing the game in a way, and its purpose...

Today one character I play overheard a very interesting shred of a political conversation. Political intrigue, with the flavour of he-said, she-said. This cute situation where my character now knows what he knows, (without the other characters suspecting it) would have been impossible without the feature. I think it's working out really well and look forward to many more interesting situations coming up through this.

yep...... getting your toon involved in other peoples business and knowing useful things that you should otherwise have no access to/ knowledge of. that's a good reason to kep the feature

are the only arguments that are in favor of the feature based on how low of a chance there is to hear something and the possibility to " get involved in more RP "? or to simply read something you find funny even if you don't react to it? those are not sound enough reasons especially seen as it's completely RANDOM
i'd be ok with it if it were NOT RANDOM.....as it is now it's flawed, stupid and to the other player who has things heard that they whisper it can also get annoying.

" oh so secret "?.....interesting word choice. i haven't had the chance to read everything but i am pretty sure that someone has already said something equivalent to " it's not your business ".
