I suppose that better idea than overhearing is some sort of whisper-filter. You don't have whisper-spam and other can whisper without limitation

about..4..most of implementations are add-on to RP. Something like patch...they might correct sth or gives some new options. This one is like new program which force user to RP in completely another way...

Still against :)

I don't agree with being forced to RP differently. That's entirely up to the way you do it. And this suggestion, too, adds on to RP. A wall of X whispers to Y surely isn't as fun to read or to interact with as the ocassional (there's only a 0,75% chance!) overheard whisper.

But I dont find anything funny in overhearing that X sells mud to Y and Z f***s A...as you like to said...I dont care! But now I must use notes when I want to keep privacy or drag my interlocutor to building...this is forced RP change
I have a cunning plan...

then don't respond to me Wiro. i am perfectly content with sticking to the side lines ranting and raving about how dumb this is like everyone else who is against it :P

though i must say you and Seko are fighting very hard for this and keep trying to point out how it can help with RP. it doesnt, and i am not the only one who thinks that.

so is that your only argument for this? it helps with roleplay? is that really it? is that what this is about? or do you like getting into other peoples business cause your bored and have nothing better to do?

Please, let's remember to keep the discussion civil and... well, a discussion. Not a rant. Not a rave. Not whine-fest.

State reasons for or against it. Inquire why someone thinks the way they do. Try to understand their position. Don't belittle them for their ideas and what they see as valuable or invaluable in the suggestion. Simply agree to disagree about it.

There is no need to get overly invested in emotions about it. As long as you let your emotions talk, nothing productive or coherent will come out of it.

It's a game. That's all it is.

ok then. point taken. this has turned into too much of an argument and not much of a debate.

we already know why people are against this.....someone tell me a couple of things that the game would benefit from this feature.

1) the opportunity to RP with others about their conversation

what else? someone give me a decent list please.....oh and not everyone cares to hear your characters opinion. just thought i'd point that out again.

also someone else give us a list of things that this feature could potentially harm.

1) plots being foiled

2) forcing people to change RP style

what else? there are ways to get around the feature so lets keep that in mind.

Oh, and to clarify, my post was just a general one directed at anyone that might have been getting emotional or overly defensive/offensive about it all.

The original suggestion would cut back on the "so and so whispers to so and so".

The eavesdropping would require some actual effort on the part of someone to do, as well as could make people more paranoid about who might be trying to listen in. It would put both parties at risk of being discovered. And it would limit it to fewer people actually overhearing, which is more realistic (no matter how many/few people are in an area, not everyone will hear it- which if this current implementation were changed to where only a random person heard it, it'd be better). And if they try to eavesdrop, then they could have a better chance of hearing what's being said than as is currently.

There are going to be mistells any time people are whispering just naturally. I don't particularly think it should be a free and easy thing for everyone in a location to hear. There should be effort expended on both sides. Those that want to be secretive need to make sure they're being secretive. Those that want to listen need to make an effort to listen in on the people they're suspicious of.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!

and i thank you for your interuption in our heated argument as i have been known to have emotionally unstable episodes where i just say " screw it " and say or do whatever comes to mind, but for the most part i have had a lot of fun with this.....eh.....debate.

Agreed, this is one of the most ridiculous changes I have seen in this game yet.

Thank you!! It's totally stupid that people expect to be able to hear private conversations. Yes, people could just go inside and talk or pass notes or whatever, but whispering is yet another form of private conversation that should stay private. Even if people were to go inside some building for privacy, someone could easily slip inside unnoticed.

Someone could walk inside the building and no one in the building notice they'd walked in

That's why it's best to refresh the page before posting what you're saying to ensure no one walked in while you were writing it. I do so pretty much all the time. Or lock the door.

Good point. However, it'll be much easier just to be able to whisper, WITHOUT the chance of other people overhearing.

I'm quite certain there's a little message saying they walk in. And if you mean that they walk in while you talk, then refresh the events page or whisper. There's barely any chance they hear you then.

How about instead of an eavesdropping project, a cone-shaped object which increases your chance of hearing whispers? It would be visible on your character page so people would be wary of cone-carriers.

True. But once again, even if they whisper, there's a chance that others will overhear, which is annoying, and defeats the purpose of whispering.
