I actually did quite the opposite, wondering why it happened.

And the thing I didn't understand is why you can't just leave your account idle until you start playing again.

So please, enlighten me.

Oh, well sorry :(

I actually did -- they are deleted after 20 days of inactivity I believe. Wasn't much I could do.

That is right, but you CAN just set it on On Leave for a maximum of ninety days. I've had to do that in the past.

Back on topic, I caved and applied for PD. THANKS Y'ALL fer yer halp.

Of course the characters die. But it keeps track of who you played. Your legacy as a player of the epic game of Cantr. [/exaggerate]

Well, I've only had two accounts -- the first one I tried searching for and can't find in the DB at all under my name (and I didn't use a fake name for it so *shrugs*) but I do have the same account now as I did last time

Alright.

Anyways, I think we have derailed the topic.

Good job, companion in Evil.

The first two (three?) times were due to lack of reliable internet access -- an in all cases so far my accounts timed out because I couldn't play frequently enough to keep up and/or forgot about it.

The third (fourth?) time might happen because I am becoming more and more distant from my less interesting characters and less active as a whole due to the dissatisfaction, and I don't feel the impetus to create new characters to replace those who will eventually starve/kill themselves. Other factors which make me more likely to 'X' include that fact that the player base is slowly being eroded, reducing the appeal of the community; the fact that the game has serious problems to do with mechanics, errors on the forum, wiki, webzine and in the game its self; rules and attitudes of some staff and players towards language groups, the Capital Rule and roleplaying; the less common but still occasional downtime; the situation with #cantr (due in part to my own actions, I am aware); the fact that I am becoming more occupied with other things, and sometimes the feeling that I am only still playing Cantr out of habit - that I have moved on from the need or want to play games like it... there is also the fact that I have seen little change in Cantr since I first signed up, yet become ever more aware of the need for change, making it seem a lost cause.

However, for now, the attractions of the game outweigh the reasons to leave. I have been with the game for years, and become involved in the community and in the game with my characters, especially with my most recent account. Having made such an investment, I am not going to leave so easily. I would like to see the game succeed and be improved, maybe even help it to do so, if I am ever in the right position to do so. I have never found another game remotely like Cantr (except maybe FTO), making it attractive because of its uniqueness... and finally the fact that I know I would probably just come back after a while if I decided to leave.

I'd help out aswell if I could, but I can't :( I script in Lua, but that's a completely different universe compared to web development. I don't know any other languages. I'm not good with people, I generally am more the kind of 'suck it up' and 'sticks and stones can break my bones' kind of guy and that's not exactly what it's like here.

Generally though I'm content with just playing Cantr, I love it here :D

- For closure
- Because your journey here has run start to end and is offering you nothing any more
- To prove to yourself that you can "disconnect" completely
- You disagree with what other players are doing in game
- You disagree with what staff are doing (or not doing)
- It takes too much of your time, and thinking every now and then about going back (with an on leave account) is wasting even more of your time
- Because people setting accounts on leave indefinitely ("sleepers") irritate the sh*t out of you
- Because you know the game is stagnating, and it is time to move on

.. I could go on all day if you like? :)

Well... I have always been unable to end things. And I hate it, it leaves me with an empty feeling that makes me actually want to hurt myself.

And I mean including just finishing a game. It drives me mad, and at one time It actually gave me a depression.

So perhaps that is why I couldn't really understand why you'd hit the 'X'. Although your reasons make sense, of course.

Absolutely.. there is some fascinating reading available on why it is unethical to not allow players to finish their journey (heroes journey) or to encourage addiction with conditional rewards (is that the term I'm looking for? Damn that beer) but no ending.

I thought of another one, too:

You need to leave to make others realise what they are doing in-and-out-of character is wrong, to wake them up, as they are in too deep to listen to reason..

I was wondering if there were any spots open in the staff for tailors?

... tailors?

You mean the Resources Department?
At the Cantr page, there should be a link about each of the Departments. Then you can send an application e-mail..

At least no one has been working on it ever since I left.

Really? I used to be tailoring, and I considered applying for it again :] I miss making clothes.

Well if you were actually allowed to implement anything instead of having to argue about whether something lowers the value of existing items or if it's necessary in the first place... I could think of several items we don't have yet but I got tired of having to negotiate about minor wording issues.
