Since it's been four days

Roger the transman, previously known as Faith.

Her (since in the beginning he was a she) founding idea was confidence. I've had too many uncertain or shy female characters so I wanted to make a strong one. Spawned weaker than average and an awkward fighter, the physical aspects weren't in line with the personality.

She was mostly ignored as a newspawn and she hated that, became loud and obnoxious to be noticed. It seemed like all the active people were in the navy and they didn't give a damn about anyone who wasn't a promising fighter. Then she got a job as a tailor but wasn't told what to do with the clothes after they were done, so she just started giving them to newspawns for free. She felt like she's gonna have to take care of the town since the leader sleeps too much.

Then there came a woman who was different from all the others, somehow. Faith had seen a lot of naked people but this woman seemed more explicitly naked and it made her feel awkward. She offered her a dress but the woman refused, saying her late girlfriend had wanted her to stay naked all the time. They talked more and the woman seemed very lonely, needing somebody to take care of her. Faith was younger and physically weaker but mentally stronger. So the woman taught her about sex and Faith wanted to be like the previous girlfriend had been, even though she had never met her, she could only base things on what the woman had told her.

Faith thought they were starting a relationship, but once they were done having sex, the woman just walked out and left town. Faith felt deeply betrayed and used and wanted to find the woman to talk things through, halfway hoping that there had been some sort of a misunderstanding. When she got to the next town, the woman had already traveled on and it seemed obvious she was practically running away. So Faith turned back and on the way home she figured the only way to negate the stain of being used was to stop being a woman. So she switched from wearing a dress to a tunic and trousers and became a man, later choosing the name Roger. He was a bit worried about how the others were going to react but "Denny" was acting like it was all cool and they could be friends.

They were planning to go on a resource run but then there was an obnoxious newspawn who wrote a totally outrageous journal entry about the town and when they read that, they figured if he's ready to go traveling without equipment from the old town leader then they might as well do the same. At first they teamed up with the guy but he was also rude towards them, so they split up. They were searching for the woman who had used Faith but there were no leads after the first stop, so they ended up wandering at random.

In fact they had already given up the search and were just planning to travel to a place with food when they happened to stumble upon the town where she lived. The woman went inside when she spotted them, so Roger slipped her an angry letter... can't remember what it said. The woman came back outside, not sorry at all, said that if they didn't leave she would have to kill him. And Roger realized he had no way of beating her or getting revenge. The woman was stronger, a better fighter and had a lockable cottage. He felt humiliated again and left, worried that she might still follow and kill him on the road where there were no witnesses. She didn't. Denny followed, trying to make him forget about the woman but he couldn't. They had an argument and Roger sat down on the road, saying he might as well stay there until starving to death. Denny said she couldn't take it anymore and kept walking, saying she'd wait for Faith in the next town. Roger knew he could never be Faith again, nor could he forget about that treacherous skank, but he might as well return to his spawn town so that they wouldn't have to wonder what happened to him.

At first he was just going to go there to die, but when he got out of the forest, he had realized he didn't really want to die after all. Farmed some rice and when he got to his spawn town, it was in a state of disarray. Many people had died or gone away, the leader was still sleeping and there had been a thief who had taken a lot of valuables. They tried to chase he thief but he was on a bike so they knew he'd be out of range in a day. Returned to town, then soon after the leader died and they got a car. Managed to chase down the thief and were ready to kill him, but Polask Kringer whom they encountered on the road convinced the thief into becoming a slave in order to save his skin. They went back to the spawntown. Ali had all the keys but he didn't care much about management. When he went out of town, he gave the keys to Roger. His plan was to change or at least remove all the locks for which he didn't have a key, since it was likely that the keys were in the hands of pirates that had sacked the town before he had even been spawned, and it would've been a security risk if they'd ever happened to come back.

Some people from the neighboring town had arrived in some point when he was inside, and they first seemed friendly but when he told them he was a man, they (or Vanessa in particular) reacted as if he had said he was from another planet, so he didn't want to waste any more time with them. He had already encountered tons of prejudice and intolerance so he was not going to try arguing with people who weren't likely to understand.

He went inside to break a lock and when he came back, they were no longer around so he assumed they had left. A couple of days after they came out of another building and dragged him inside, had built a lock there. When he woke up, he had been hit by three people and was almost dead. He had a kilo of popcorn but that didn't really make a difference. He dropped most of the keys and his weapons, trying to convince them he was ready to cooperate, although he kept some keys in case they'd let him out: one to a dinghy, one to the storage room that had all the healing food, one to Ali's room and two to a car. Still they sent a fourth person inside to strike him, again without a word. If he hadn't missed, Roger would have been killed without an explanation even after he had surrendered. He wrote them another letter, asking them to explain why they were doing it, so this guy in his fifties came inside and they had a long chat. It was some crazy nationalist guy he didn't remember seeing before. Never gave a name either, probably assuming that of course the whole world must know him.

The ironic part was that it sounded like they were accusing Roger of being a man who had pretended to be a woman, when that was never the case. He became a man on a certain date and never after that did he claim to be a woman. If someone called him Faith or "lady" or whatever, he always corrected them. Also he was very loyal to the town and would have been totally content with handing over power to someone older than him, sticking to being a tailor for life or changing locks or shit like that. But Mr Crazy Nationalist Guy was certain that he was staining the reputation of Neverheardof Republic with his mere existence so he snuffed him like a rat. Good luck trying to find self-sacrificing citizens who are ready to put up with all the bullshit.

It was indeed one big, foggy event. I really looked forward to spending some time with that character in the future, but seems like that won't be happening anymore now.

I was there for Mr Crazy Nationalist Guy's (Eurytion) takeover and it was pretty ridiculous. He kept babbling about how things were chaotic now and therefore the town required strict laws until things calmed down, but, once all the visitors left (more like fled), there were only maybe two people in that town who weren't part of his little "government." What are they governing, sleepers?

I knew things were a bit shady and all that from the start, and that Roger would be hurt. But I wasn't sure if he'd be killed. Hmph. I was afraid that perhaps my character would be dragged into all that as well, but that didn't happen, luckily. I think the reason only Roger got dragged inside was to keep as many people there to become happy citizens of that place.

Roger got dragged because he had the keys. He wrote a note saying "don't hurt the others, they have nothing to do with this" and maybe the attackers believed it. Edit: And I assume the new people will be doing exactly the same stuff we were doing/going to do, they just assume their cause is more noble than ours when at least Roger was going to keep the town alive the best he could, or more like resurrect it since it was already dead. People can't assume others to believe in a Republic that's only mentioned on some dusty notes and never seen in practice.

I hope the knowledge of what happened won't affect your characters' behavior. Maybe I should have waited longer before announcing but I just felt like had to get it off my chest since it has been bothering me ever since it happened. Hopefully I can let go now.
