Well, the way Dory had it planned was that Amelia would have been dead before Adam could have even gotten to her. He would have shown up for the rescue but, in essence, failed to save her. No doubt he would have attempted to retaliate against Dory, but the main mission, rescuing Amelia, would have failed.
