Anyone awake?

Postby BlueNine » Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:21 pm

Has anyone else noticed an increase in characters asking the question "Anyone awake?" several times in a day?

I'm not really complaining, just sounds a bit strange and has suddenly erupted in the last week or so (near my chars anyway)

Hmm, seen it here and there. And guilty of it with one of my chars, although just aimed at a certain char who was supposed to help mine with some stuff that required constant awakeness.

What I do find annoying is the fact so many people *act* like they're not awake, when they are. I go through all the trouble of roleplaying with charaters who will probably be killed, and they just ignore me (I know they are because for example they took stuff while I was out of the room for a second, or stopped working or started working on something)... and when I get a char locked up, the killers don't roleplay with me. :(

I'm a faux sleeper but I RP when possible. I've never been in Wiro's situation with the killer not RPing. Only had one character 'killed' but he sorta deserved it and WASN'T suicidal. People RPed, to an extent, but mostly just offed him and moved on.

As for the "Anyone Awake" thing.. Yeah I noticed that! See that rather often now actually.

"If anyone is awake blah blah blah"

"Anyone Awake I need blah blah blah"

Mostly for dragging and issues involving things that REQUIRE people to be at their PC.

Example: Yelling at law breakers/thieves, dragging (thieves), hitting (thieves).

The only reason I would read and not say anything would be if I just don't feel like writing much and don't want to dissapoint the other players.

I might occasionally do the "pretend to be asleep" thing if I don't have time to get into a heavy period of RP (eg: have enough time to set a char on a project but not much more). I just think it'd be better than one or two lines of RP and a sudden stop.

As for the "anyone awake" I can kinda understand it for dragging/attacking (although "can anyone help" is a better alternative IMO) but I'm seeing it more commonly being used just to chat eg:

1:"is anyone awake?"
2:"i am"
1:"how are you?"

Which i suppose was to be expected with the minute limit being removed, but still...

Lol yeah, it's sorta annoying sometimes to hear the "how are you" "good" "ok" and the nothing else happens. x3

I've seen some newspawns complaining about towns being too silent when there's over a page's worth of text in a day. O_O If that isn't enough, someone's in the wrong game. I remember when I was a newbie, I enjoyed watching a mud fight in Pak and I don't think I participated in it but I somehow interacted with people, and I felt obliged to tell them OOC that I need to log out now but I had fun. People might be all excited about rp'ing when they start but then the interest generally fades/becomes less glaring.

Well, I think it's pretty much quantity at the start, but more quality at the end. That's how it went for me at least. And after that more balance.

Well I never ask if someone's awake unless it's something like dragging, like was mentioned, but on the opposite side, if I wind up in a 'live' conversation with someone I'll usually mention that I need to go to sleep, something I never do otherwise.
