To conclude, Cantr is a game that is designed to be about equipment, not skills and I don't see how martial arts would fit in.
Exactly.

You know what I love about Cantr? You don't need to have skills(in the manner you suggest) to RP. At least majority don't.

Exactly. I don't even know which skills most of my characters have. Skills were added late in the game as far as I know and they are still not by far as important as in other games. Martial arts simply can't work properly with the current skill system. Either we would have to completely restructure the whole system or invent special rules for certain skills.

Sure ill pretend i killed someone using my fists, when really i cause 0 damage. Lol.

I dont think it would require that much of a total restructure. Theres call to make experts the only ones capable of making certain items, and this would be a similar change. From my knowledge of Sql, it wouldnt be too hard, but perhaps not really simple either.

Personally I thinks skills are a big addition with much potential. Of course, It depends on what everyone else thinks.

Yes, and that's why this change is unlikely to be accepted either. Same problem.

The question is not just is it diffcult to code (which it isnt really), but would It add to the games diversity and fun.

Whats your opinion on that?

Well, this is not about programming effort, this is about the impact on the game. Changing and disbalancing the whole combat and skill system to implement a minor feature for a handful of people seem just disproportionate.

Let's ask a counter question. Do you think this feature would add to the fun for everyone or just for a few kung-fu enthusiasts (who would probably be better off playing a wholly different game)? Principally there's nothing wrong with that, but it would cause a cascade of side effect that would certainly not add to the fun of the game at all.

We must part here. This is not simply about kung-fu but about all hand-to-hand combat. And yes, a variety of personal combats would add to everyones game, not just yugo fans. Name a society that doesn't have personal combat! (Maybe tibet)

Simply put, its not just about a minority, if it is one, but its about how the whole game is effected. This combat system doesnt(current) allow for specialisation. Battle axe or crossbow is best period. If we allow some specialisation in combat, it makes culture more diverse (after all cantr is feudal, who can deny the sword really rules)

There are more accurate weapons, better durability weapons, faster weapons etc. In RL, this created cultural diversity. It built civilisation, in a direct way.

Principally there's nothing wrong with that, but it would cause a cascade of side effects that would certainly not add to the fun of the game at all.

Ive suggested originally that hand to hand would be essentially behind weapons, while close with a good training effort. There is balance built into the idea! If you see a balance problem, suggest your opinions and well discuss it...

Read the OP again. Ive considered all this.

I'm not a kung-fu enthusiast but I know a few characters (even a couple of mine) that would love it. I want it for the rping myself.

Plus, it would be super-fun. *pouts*
Sketchified.
