Important docking problems

Postby tazer » Mon Apr 20, 2009 8:48 pm

Alright one of my charachters, Kate Riden, just docked a raft to a darter and is on board (no lock) I need to dock this darter to a soarer that is on top of my location ASAP but it wont let me.

It won't let you as in you get an error, or it won't let you as in you don't have the option? If it's the latter, you need to move your darter a smidge to refresh the docking options.

Yes, you need to move to refresh the view from the boat. The view you see now is the old one from the last time the boat moved. Suggestion: Move the minimum amount you can, about 10% (go back and check again, it can round down so you don't move at all) and you should have the docking option after one tick.

Yesterday I undocked from town and immediately docked to a ship a little ways out in the sea.

Today I undocked and tried to redock in town, and after all day, I'm only at 75%.

Is this normal?

If you're on a small slower ship, yes that can be correct. Dinghies especially take a fair while to dock. If it doesn't progress further than 75% for a couple of cantr hours post again.

According to my observations docking percentage doesn't progress linearly but 75% seems to mean that docking will be done on the next tick, while 55% means it will happen in two ticks and 25% or something means three ticks, or something like that.

Yes, Seko, the 75% and 55% are correct. At 25%, it will take days (the length gets disproportionately longer the lower the % gets). I believe that 43% and/or 45% come before 55%.

@notsure:

When you undock from land, you get shot out to sea aways, while when you undock from a ship, you stay in the same coordinates. This is why even though you docked instantly to the ship from land, you need to sail a bit back to dock to shore.

I saw a 35% today with one of my characters. I could keep checking hourly how it changes.

Depending on how much load you have I believe many more percentages are possible.

I'm trying to dock a canoe. I know that if you're closer to the port it goes faster, but for two days it's only gotten to 15%.

My charrie will die of hunger in 5 days. Can anyone assure me she'll dock before then, and have a day to gather food (if there is even food there? I hadn't thought of that!!!)

Thanks.

I don't think anyone can guarantee that, short of checking the code. I'd try to get closer, if I were you.

Even if you start docking when you first notice it's allowed, shouldn't you dock in three days? This is the third day. ( I did take time out for a couple of ticks to get closer.)

Could it be due to time standing still earlier? I could reduce the character's hunger if there's reason to believe they're going to die due to a glitch. Of course I'd have to know who they are then.

The game kept running, I'm sure of that. Just the clock was stuck.

He's in a canoe, which is very slow and is probably laden. What % are you at now?
