Oven

Postby berserk9779 » Sun Apr 11, 2004 6:01 pm

In Vrayllnuets Hills (south) there is an oven built out in the open, but when I try to build another one (there or with another of my chars) it says I can only build it inside of a building.

Going slightly off topic, isn't it exagetated that to eat meat you need iron tecnology? you either ned iron for the trowel or for the shovel.
People was eating cooked meat loooong before discovering iron, so, can we have a wooden trowel? maybe you can make it in a way so that it works a bit slower or even half the speed

Ovens cannot be built outside. There must have been a problem back when it was built.

I noticed that the smelting furnace that used to be in Cantr City a long time ago is gone. Perhaps this should be moved.

As for the other I made the same comment too. The response was "This is to encourage trade." Also you can assume that Cantarians are too advanced to live in the wilds without iron. They're not living off the land. They're more like camping or going to established camping sites.

Back in the day you didn't need to be inside to build something like that. e.g. the oven in Quillanoi.
People don't change....perceptions do.

I like the idea of being able to build a small fire pit with out needing a shovel. We can use our hands, can't we, and it would just make it slower to build. Couldn't we have it like if you use your hands it will take 2 days to build it and if you use a shovel it will take only 1.
But at the same time it does make it challenging. But one of my Chars has tons of meat on him and he can't cook it because he has no shovel

Maybe then we should add a new machine. A "Spit" (Or "Rotiserary" - However you spell it. You know, the thing with two poles, and a bar across it, with the bar through the meat, and the bar being cranked around to cook it over a fire...)

Since a fire pit you need to dig out a small area, a Spit wouldn't, since it's above ground. So then, it could just be made from wood.

Umm...the reason for digging a hole in the ground for a firepit has nothing to do with a cooking stuff. It keep the wind from putting out your fire and coals as well as prevents it from spreading from without the firepit.

Thought It should point tht out.

But about the spit, you will still need some sort of pit or something for the fire to be in so I don't see how this solves the problem.

Anyhow, the ovens outside harken back to an age when you were allowed to build anything outside or inside. I was around when that oven was built in Quillanoi.

He still needs to get it by the powers to be.

But I am thinking perhaps a spit would cook more meat in less time than one without it.

so we can dig raw hematite out of the ground with our bare hands but we can't scrap a shallow depression to put a fire in?plus a fire pit has stone in it which i assume is to represent placing stones around it which does the same job as digging a hole anyway

Actually, the stone does not do the same as the pit but we are not here to debate firepits. I would agree that you wouldn't need a shovel to dig up a hole so maybe it should be taken away or maybe use a more ancient type of shovel that doesn't require iron...

Blow out the fire. Pfft. It's always possible the fire doesn't get blown out. Plus, there's technically no wind in the game yet :P

Boats move without sails, so there.

Then what is the spit for then. Just build a fire without a pit and cook like you do over a firepit without a spit.

That one is easy. The spit is for rotating a large joint of meat so it gets evenly cooked, not just cooked on one side. It also keeps some of the juices in better, I think.
