Centenarians are "common" in Japan? How common? Japan has, I think, the highest life expectancies in the world, but it's still in the lower 80s. As I see it, the main reason is better diet. Obesity is simply not an issue in Japan. Diet fads are rare, and most are concerned with foods that reduce heart disease or cancer risk, not weight.

The old age thing might be for population control, but I STILL hate the idea of people dying simply because they are old. That is one part of the real world that I don't want in a game that is supposed to be fun.I've worked really hard to forge all these relationships with my older characters and it's just too horrible to me...for all that to be gone because my character is old and can die from that age.

Nah, Death cuz of old age is fine by me... The key word is: Renewal of social structures... A ruler or any other influential cahr might have such an impact on the culture in a location. Them passing away opens new ideas, possibilities, a whole new culture...
I'd say: Die you old fart... Now it's my turn.

Although I need to disagree on that, Old Age would be an interesting aspect in the game. No one keeps everything. You either die from being killed or starving. So old age would be another way to die.
But, then again, this is Cantr. Cantr isn't real life. Who says people can't live 250 years? 500 years? 1000 years? Exactly.

I don't care about the influence of the char. Change is good, and change is bad. I say if people want to keep that ruler, leave them in control. When they die,the char will pass their stuff on to someone they trust anyway..That is unlikely to be someone new and/or inexperienced. So the reign will probably always go to someone in their thirties and over.
I don't want to play a game that is a mirror of real life,if I wanted to do that...I'd have a child. In all honesty,it would be the same thing. Learning from a child and so forth what to do and what not to do. I am not interested in "playing" something that is a carbon copy of life, with death from old age.
It may seem like a rant, but I will repeat my opinion and re-explain it over and over again like a broken record. I do know if the change DOES occur, then I'm not willing to play the game at all anymore...

Im agreeing with Chels on this subject, death by old age would ruin the game for me, you would get more maniacs locking people up and taking control of towns all over the cantr world just because some very powerful character died and a lunatic new spawn picks up all of his things. It happened in brunoi and a few other towns when the leader/leaders died off. Stupid idea like the skills thing, hate them both and would ruin the game for me.

Not at 30, that's still young, 40 really isn't old either, most people start really slowing down in their 50's. A permanent 2% reduction per year after age 50 would make since. But the aging process does stop after a certain amount of time, so at age 90, assuming a char makes it that long, their max health would be 10% and would stay at that til they die, resulting in a few very long lived chars, but most would probly end up dieing someway (random maniacs, animals) in their 70-80's assuming anyone is able to live that long to begin with.

I like that better. Because then it's still possible to live forever. But, I'm sure people would kill old guys just because they're old and easy to kill >.> I'd hide in a locked room and not come out... then pop out when I'm like, 200 years old.

something else to note, Cantr Charactures start life at 20. it would not be fair to have the charactures start loosing health at 30.. maybe 50 or 60... to reflect the difference of when charactures are born. but since charactures start life at 20 it would not make sense to start declining right when you have finally gotten everything figured out at 30.
comparitivly speaking treat a 20 year old like a kid.
so. 10 IRL years is 20 IRL years..... IRL people commonly start having problums at around 40ish. so lats make a cantr person have some health probums at 50 ok?
PsPi
Here I am. BITE ME. or not, in fact, never mind, dont want some wacko taking me up on the offer. Only non wacko's may apply for bite allowance.. no garentee that you will be granted said allowance, but you can try.

IRL 40s and 50s as "having problems"....that would be what?, 75%
That is the point where is becomes obvious to the twentysomethings that you have change.
When you start to feel it is before others see it. 98% is not 100%.
What's my point.
Forget about old age for characters.
You IRL twentysomethings need to cliff diving. Now. Yes. Right now. The game will still be here when you get older or hostipizatilized.
