Lost (The TV Show)

Postby Dee » Sat Mar 07, 2009 11:45 pm

Lost really reminds me of Cantr, anyone feels the same?

I'm really obsessed with it.

It's a cool show, for sure, and one of my favorites. I don't really see a Cantr parallel, especially as how Lost is steeped in spiritual mysticism and Cantr has no spirituality or mysticism at all.

I suppose if you consider the plane crash the equivalent of spawning, sure, that could be a parallel, but I don't see much more.

Well they kinda have the same elements, islands, surviving, wars. Sadly, Cantr has no mysteries to be solved.

The lack of random quests has always been one of the big advantages of Cantr for me. It means the mysteries you encounter are real mysteries, some of which can be solved and some of which can´t; there´s no pre-coded solution. Have you tried solving a crime, for example? Challenging enough, if there are no witnesses (or if the witnesses aren´t trustworthy). :)

Oops... I think that was a bit off-topic, sorry.

Lost's depth is what attracts me, and is an area in which cantr is severely lacking, IMHO. So if anything, I see them at opposite ends of a spectrum..

Kudos for a truly off the wall thread though, I'm impressed ;)

Well, to be honest, Cantr is just a game. It can never have the depth of Lost. But I like the idea that our characters are just as adventurous and everything is just as mysterious as Lost.

I love Lost. (Have all 4 seasons dvds) It has many times reminded me of Cantr. There is no way it (Cantr) can have the depth of the show, it lacks visual stimulation. Lost isn't as enticing if you just listen to it... even then, you still get the ambient noises.. the suspense music.

Either way, it is great!

At risk of derailing the thread, I strongly disagree with the idea that depth requires graphics or music! Depth of storyline, character and interaction would be some basic examples.

I love lost and cantr, but for very different reasons. :)

I agree with chase, you don't need visual stimulus to have great depth, think of a book.

Well, I've never been interested at all in that show so as far as I'm concerned it's pretty different from Cantr.

I love Lost. I've never been reminded of Cantr though...can't say I've ever seen the equivalent of Smokey in game....or a character quite like Ben.
On a side note...I think this season so far has made up for the last one. Season 4 was a great disappointment to me, and this season is a lot better.

I respect the angle of Lost and what it's trying to do; offer barely any substance to a viewer for an hour every week, but just enough to keep the stupid avidly awaiting the next episode.

As for similarities with Cantr, i don't see it personally. Other than the people on an island thing. But i gave up watching it during season 2 when i caught on to what they were doing.

My character Lond Arminius had a lot in common with Ben, which is why I like Ben so much.

Juliet's my favorite character. That lop-sided grin of hers just melts me.

Yeah I completely agree with you on that.. Season 4 was a disappointment to me, too. But I'm loving this season, I love the excitement and the suspense.

She is my least favorite character on the show, but I loved her in the last episode. Of course I love Sawyer, Kate.. Jack, not so much...

I think the characters played in the game should have depth and characteristics more like the characters on Lost. The game would be so much interesting.

Kate is hands down my least favorite character. Nothing redeeming about her, really, except her motherly instincts for Aaron, who she just gave up to come back to the island. All she does it cause trouble, and not good kind of trouble.
