They haven't been in the webzine for a while. But they are sometimes done here on the forums.

There are 30801 deleted accounts (removed, unsubbed or timed out) out of which...

...23474 have played for 1 day or less (and out of these 19691 haven't been active after the date of registering)
...3269 have played for more than 1 day but no more than 7 days
...1710 have played for more than 7 days but no more than 30 days
...1360 have played for more than 30 days but no more than 180 days
...988 have stopped playing after more than 180 days.

If we had a trial version in which you could test the mechanics without registering, that might well cut down unsubs by 75% because the people who were just curious to see how Cantr works wouldn't register if they found the game boring. I was working on something like that in Flash but I never get things finished.

From this graph you can see that the vast majority of accounts have simply been abandoned - the player has not made a conscious decision to quit, they've simply stopped playing. There is a total of 32076 accounts out of which 1079 are approved, 94 are "active" - a status which is supposed to be obsolete and is most likely identical to approved. 102 are locked.

So about 10% of all accounts ever registered, or 40% of the ones that were at least played for a day, were played for more than a month or are still played. That doesn't seem too bad.

I do wonder that there are so many locked accounts though. Don't they time-out and stay locked indefinitely or are there really so many cases under investigation?

Locked accounts don't time out. I took a glance at the dates and the oldest ones were from like 1700 or something. There was only a handful that looked like they might be locked temporarily for questioning, the rest can be considered banned.

You rule, Seko.

Follow-up questions:

-How many accounts are there currently that have been active for >180 days?
- >360 days?
- >720 days?
- >1080 days?

I'm leaving out the locked players since they're not currently active.

Code: Select all

 >180   565
 >360   433
 >720   249
>1080   119

That seems like a pretty good player base. I wish the world was smaller so that charries could get together more.

Well, 10% of accounts registered since we made the change that we actually keep records of idled out / closed accounts. Originally, accounts that were closed were removed from the database, so those are not included in these statistics.

Would the people from >1080 also be counted at the >720 group?
That would make a total of 565.
Otherwise it'll be 1366

With only about 1000 active players I strongly suspect that the groups are non-exclusive.

Yeah, the people who have played for more than three years have also played for more than two years, more than a year and more than half a year. So the >180 category includes all the rest too. 1079 + 94 = 1173 active people. 1173 - 565 = 608 people who have been active no more than 180 days, might include people who will time out or starve today.

That would be in-game information, CRB to publish.
I think ...

That's ok in this case ;) ... We have published it many times.

SekoETC wrote:I wish the world was smaller so that charries could get together more.

Yeah, I agree :) ... The problem is caused by different factors, I guess, but the most important one is that I always enjoyed making new lands too much :) ... It's fun to create them and it's cool to daydream about how they will develop as societies. But in reality, they just tend to remain empty land masses. So it's entirely my fault.

I also of course assumed a bigger growth of players - we went from 2000 to 1000 players, which is a very serious reduction.

I think the solution is in getting people to concentrate much more geographically. I have thought about different solutions, but it's difficult to find good ones for which players will not absolutely hate you :) ... For example, natural disasters could make particular regions uninhabitable. Or we could make animals somewhat more aggressive again, so that living in sparsely populated areas is harder. Or ... I have another solution but I'll leave it for a later post on the suggestions forum. But it would be cool to think about ways of making people move more to cities.

Mind you, that has big disadvantages too. I recently spawned three new chars. They were very boring to play because they were in quiet towns. Now I ended up in bigger towns and it's more fun, but it takes way too much time to read the events page and I don't get around to playing as much as I should ...

^I think a simple way to make the world smaller is have newspawns go where they are wanted. Perhaps by creating "spawning pools" where if given proper care, such as by throwing food in the pool, a town has an increased chance of gaining a newspawn.

Furthermore, I think that when you make people have to wait to get their account approved, it detracts a great amount of people from getting into the game. As someone mentioned earlier...most people just want to see what Cantr is about and if they have to wait to get their account approved, odds are a person will just go explore some other mmo game.

Newspawns going where they are wanted and either a way to allow a person to be instantly accepted, or a way for a person to see what the game is like while they are waiting on their account I think will increase the amount of people who play the game.

Perhaps we can have accounts instantly approved, but bar a new character from talking/making notes until the account is ok'd by a person?

I'm not really sure if it's already here but, I'll say it anyway :D

I'd like to see most active players (top 10)
