View messages by a character
In order to make it easier to sift through the every day noises which fill many large towns, I think we ought to be able to filter messages by character. Perhaps even filter the message by the type of event such as talk to alls and actions like entering a building.
Being able to select a couple or more people and view their messages if u want would be great too.
That way a person doesn't have to sift through sometimes 10 pages of text to see what's going on, they can just click the filter button and see what the deal is.

The problem with ctrl+f is I just want to know what the character says often times, i don't particularly care about their actions, or someone who brings up their name.
Also, if I care about what a few individuals say, I have to scroll through with ctrl+f for each one of their names and it's a hassle.
It would be much easier to have a separate box that I can use to show me the messages of a certain character(s).

I don't like the idea. You're supposed to read it all in my opinion.
Imagine someone doing...
*throws rocks at John Doe and then pushes him in the wall, then throws a few more rocks at him*
Sure your character would notice that. So it'd be weird if that would be filtered out and you as a player don't know about it and are thus unable to roleplay according to what happened.

Not like people would use the "only view events by X" mode all the time, only for the time it takes to read them. But I don't see why you couldn't search for "X says" if you want to ignore their hunting and such. You could even use Firefox to highlight all occurrences to avoid having to click "next" several times.

It could be a drop-down list, but the default should always be 'show all event types'. That way the player will always see the whole list before selecting.
A problem could be that currently less events are shown every time you access the events page. By going through the events by type the player could miss some of the events of the last types read. To avoid this a timeline-choice of 'new', 'since last session' and 'all' could be made (the first being the current default, the last being an existing option) in a second drop-down list.

Well, the idea would be that always all events show up, but there are a few buttons you can use that or fields you can fill in that darken some of the events, so you can still read all, but the ones you're interested in are highlighted ... but it definitely should not be permanent - the idea is not that you start ignoring major developments

lol
Anyway what I was going to say is one reason why the big city argument doesn't work for me is If you live in a big city you should expect it.
Just like in real life some people move to big cities because they like the noise, the action, and the excitement. Others try to stay away because they like it a little quieter.\
I do like this Idea sometimes though because If you go on vacation for a week or two I can see spending your 200 mins on just a few big city characters when you return if you read it all.
