Allow radios to be moved

Postby Idriveayugo » Sun Oct 26, 2008 8:32 am

Let's allow for radios to be moved so that they can be placed in cars, outside, in other buildings, or even onto people. I feel the lack of communication in Cantr is what is causing so many people to be turned away from it and this must change. I barely talk to any one in Cantr anymore and quite frankly, the game is BORING with no one around.

We must allow for people to communicate and see what is going on outside from buildings through windows and we must allow for radio's to be moved. These two issues need to be addressed first and foremost.

Who is with me? Can I get an amen?

Amen. :)

I like the idea, radios are good, but you have to be around them all the time. Portable radios would be great, but they shouldn't be as good as those that already exists.

- The range should be shorter. Portable radios are smaller, and this should affect on their range.

- Everybody hears what is said in the portable radio. Just as the ones that exist.

- Heavy. I now, radios are pretty small in RL. But in Cantr they should be heavy, simply because it's such an advantage having a radio.

Why? Why must EVERYTHING that makes life in Cantr a little bit easier, so much harder and different from real life?

Anyway, I like the idea.

Cantrians haven't discovered germanium or silicon. Radios before such things in RL were immovable.
As a kid we had a "transportable" Pye radio - weighed 55 lb, larger than an old TV, with pitched roof and fretwork sunrise on the front. Dating, I think, from about 1929.
(That's abbout 25kg for you youngsters.)

yeah, the radios in cantr are huge, like the ones you see in old movies with the submarines. these arent portable, and they couldnt be switched between vehicles and buildings. reason is that vehicles use a different radio.

maybe one day cantr will have portable radios, but at the time it is too soon, cantr isnt advance enough

speaking of advancement, has anyone thought about what will happen when it comes time for advancement in areas such as weapons and shields? I mean the easy answer is to add things such as firearms, maybe body armor for the shields. But here's the thing. Some of the weapons we currently have are already pretty strong, such as battle axes, they can do up to and over 50% damage in one hit. We can't exactly just make the new weapons more powerful or they'll eventually be one-hit-kill weapons.

How about a holdable radio(walkie talkie) thats a normal receiver, but only transmit to the town/vehicle its in. So useful for a group of folks in one town, or in conjunction with a repeater...

It might also require a battery, which would need to be periodically recharged or replaced.

Hmm, if there is some kind of portable communication in Cantr, it should obviously require many rare resource types and expensive tools, so only the most well-connected and wealthy will be able to make them. Among the rich, they well become the new "must have" accessory. Also, they should have some form of battery which needs to be periodically replaced (more power is used when the radio is actively used, but it can be turned off to save power).

The idea of portable communication has been suggested multiple times in the form of cell-phones, walkie talkies, backpack radios and other things. I think one might've gotten accepted but I'm not sure.

I think that radios in ships should be implemented first...

I was more suggesting we be able to move radios outside than anything else. Perhaps I misspoke when I suggested putting em in cars, I only meant put em in cars for transportation's sake so that a person can move a radio to another town if need be. I didn't mean allow the radio to be usable inside of the car.

I just want people to be able to hear the radio outside so that they don't have to hide inside to hear a message. Being inside of a building is BORING and I suggest the staff make it a priority to fix that.

That's why good towns have ONE place with all the machines. This way there's always someone inside.

Anyway, I think that having radios become unusable when picked up, and then have the possibility to drop it where you want is a nice idea.

Of course you would see someone dragging a radio. (Radio thieves :O)

Duplicate!!!

Anyway this is a good suggestion. It may be quite chemically incoherent as said by Tiddy but we can't even make soap, but we make biodiesel.
