Life before 20 years old?

Life before 20 years old?

Well, I don't know for sure whether this has been covered or not, and don't take offense as this seems to be a touchy issue with some people, but I think the game would be much better if your characters could have basic histories before the age of twenty. I don't mean that they should be able to designate themselves (for example) the rightful heir to the throne somewhere... or that they should be allowed to say that so-and-so is their mother, father, etc., but that they could have basic knowledge of how certain things work based on what they were taught when they were younger. I think it would add to the RP if it was controlled properly, though I do understand that it could be a difficult thing to keep under control.

Really. We don't need it. It would imply that our characters HAVE to follow thier background from before 20, as opposed to now, where anyone can rise or fall depending on how they act from the start, not locked in.

And having knowledge of how things work? It's a constant sore point, but easy enough to work around. Just work through it and ease up; enjoy the game, don't nit pick the details.

Although it can give you a laugh. Like wondering if Cantrians think that earrings come with earlobes, since you don't see them described untill someone wears the earrings... :roll:

I believe Cantr babies are on the programming list, though I would not know since I'm not part of the programming department. Those Cantr babies would have a life before twenty. Cantr newspawns don't. If you want a life before twenty, then wait for babies to be programmed. Until then, quit whining.

The newspawn's knowledge is more or less defined in the Capital Rule, one of the things that keeps this game from turning into supernewbieland. :roll:

Er... there are two possibilities for what Cantr characters are before the game actually recognizes their existance. 1: Ethereal, invisible, blind, and deaf entities (or you would be getting reports and they could do work and be killed). 2: NOT EXISTANT. Your character doesn't have a history. The knowledge of the game mechanics that your character is spawned with is under debate, but considering that characters spawing at 'age 20' is more logical in every way than any given alternative (until Cantr is reformed so that it's awful, anway), it is safe to assume that they spawn at age 20. Especially since, if you think about it, your character DID NOT exist before you created him/her....

Anyway, if you want your character to have a history, record what happens to them. That's their history. Or have them lie about their life. Either way.

There weren't ages until about the mid-200s, and when there were, the word "years" wasn't added to them until later.

Really? Well if the world started out with no real ages or numbered ages, then it makes more sense not to worry about newspawns having pre-histories... in fact in that situation it makes much more sense to have no history at all and to simply start to exist at age twenty.

I will leave this alone now, haha.

I like to rekindle this idea in a new way.

It is sort of a hard adjustment coming into a new area. Not all places have sensible notes and even then most places leave out anykind of news from there notes.

The game day is 2421 .. about 121 years. So it should be possible for a 20 year old to remember something from before they were spawned. Even if they remembered everything that would still be day 2021.

The game seems to keep 5 or 6 days available. Should a 20 year old at least be able to remember back to a quarter of a year ago (5 days)?

Here is the suggestion in a nutshell....

Give newspawns all the events from the outside location where they spawn.

I'd like to see more but that is a start at least. It would help prevent repetitive questions, skip some introductions, and help people who choose to come up with a way to fit in and learn the unwritten local rules.

It would be awkward if you were having sex out in the open when there were no spectators and then a newspawn pops up... knowing everything that happened. Also if people just murdered someone and made sure there were no witnesses, it would be inconvenient if a newspawn popped up and knew what had happened.

It would make more sense if people had to wait 6 days without being able to do anything besides watch but they'd be visible. That way they would have no better things to do but to learn about their community and the community would know there was a newspawn about to appear.

Who would have sex outside?- *Flashback* Oh. Nevermind. :P

I think there should really be a child/birth feature.
You can choose to spawn as a 20-yearold or a baby.

Spawning as a baby would take some time because someone would first have to give birth. (after having sex/getting raped)
So there should be a limit of one baby-spawn per month.

Just imagine raping all the old woman in a town and ruining their lives with a baby. Or having a serious relationship with them untill they're pregnant, and then run away.

About rape, it should be a project, exactly like dragging, except nobody gets moved to a different location. The more tired/hungry/damaged a person is, the easier they are to rape, and if one person isn't strong enough to rape somebody by themselves, more people can join the project (they can also join while the rape is in progress -- to make gang rape possible). When initating a rape project, the rapist should be given the option of rape or seduction - if seduction is selected, the project never starts until the subject joins the project (somebody can also have consentual sex with multiple other people to make orgies and line-ups possible).

Sex will also be similar to breaking a lock, since it has to be done for a certain amount of time until impregnation is possible (which has a reasonably small chance of happening, depending on the health of both parties), after which the project has to be restarted for another attempt. To stop people from just getting free babies by trying over and over again, sex should take about 50% from somebody's tiredness, so they at least have to rest before trying again (of course, they won't know if they've been successful until about 3 months afterwards, when the woman shows signs of pregnancy, and if she had sex with multiple people before that, it will never be certain who's the child is). And, of course, if the man is too tired, impregnation will be virtually impossible.

Two things I would like to bring up here,


1: I am not sure where the server is located, but if it is within the US then I would say that Cantr is already walking a tenuous thread in depicting sexual activities and being a game open to minors. Making "sex" or "rape" an actual project would certainly teeter over the edge and fall into the "illegal" zone.


2: If this does get implemented....I am curious as to what will read under the "tools" part of the project :lol:

The fact that it is possible for other players to depict sexual activities doesn't mean that the game inherently contains sex (in fact, that is the very problem that is being discussed). If that logic was valid, then people under the age of 18 wouldn't be able to use Outlook Express because someone might send them an email containing pornographic images.

If sexual activity is implemented, then I believe the standard workaround is to make players "agree" that they are 18 or older when signing up.
