Back in the old days there was no image uploading and if you wanted to get a picture on the Cantr server, you had to send it to pictures at cantr dot net and the filter would snatch it if it was too big. So it was easier to use outside hosting, but broken images are not something you would want to see on a note.
I think when one of my characters was imprisoned (when I was a newbie) I felt like sending a note to the outside world by overwriting an image I had hosted elsewhere, but in that point I couldn't remember my villagephotos password anymore. Or maybe it wasn't that, but I remember thinking that if the events list extended a few days further, I could click on a person's name and whisper to them from a distance. I didn't know that the code checks if a person is in the same location before allowing the message to go through.
The thing is if someone uses an unnatural method of communication, others shouldn't act upon it even if they saw the changed message because it would be a CRB. It would give you an unfair advantage over other people. A new person most likely wouldn't think about how they would feel if they had managed to capture a person who was locked behind two or more doors so that they couldn't knock or send notes to the outside world, a foolproof plan, only to have them rescued by a group who inexplicably got a message from the prisoner. With all things people should stop to think "how would I feel if I was at the other end of this?"
