Magical Notes

Postby *Wiro » Mon Sep 29, 2008 1:40 pm

A few days ago I got this idea. Notes that change their message automaticly.
Imagine having a clan of witches. They all have a note.

In this note, an image is added with html.
The image is hosted on a site of yours.
And the name is image.png

Now, lets say I uploaded an image of a blue spiral on my site.
The name of the image *has* to be image.png

There's a meeting. All the witches gather at a certain point.
You give the note to all of the witch members.
The witch meeting is over, everyone goes away again.

Two weeks later you're in trouble. A group of priests wants to kill you.
You upload an image with the words "Help" and your location.
The witches, who are supposed to check their magical note daily, see these words and quickly go to that location to help their leader.
They help you kill the priests and live goes on.
You change the image back to the blue spiral.

And well, that's my idea. Please tell me what you think about it! :)

Sorry, but I'm afraid it would be a CRB (using OOC means for inter-character comunication), and the notes would get deleted as soon as any "officials" notice them - similar as is would be with notes containing flash games etc.

Using a picture you draw in paint would be the exact same thing then, wouldn't it?
The only difference between a note with a normal picture and this note is that the image is hosted on my own site and that I change it now and then.
IC it would simply mean that I changed the note's picture with magic.

As Miri said, it would be a breach of the Capital Rule. All images should be hosted on cantr.net. Using any out-of-game method to affect in-game events, as you describe, is a clear violation of the rules.

Hmm, I guess we both look at it in a different way.
I see an original way to use magic in cantr.
You two see a breach of the CR.

Ah well, I guess I'll end it here then. I don't feel like having a long discussion right now. I just joined and don't want to look like some brat that *must* have it the way he wants it.

Very creative thinking, no doubt about it, but it does say in the rules that you can't use third party uploading sites. You have to upload pictures in through the game.

I could think of several novel ways to do something like this utilizing a radio combined with server-based images that may be legal (it all depends if transmitting html code over radios would be a CRB - I believe there is another thread on that somewhere).

Just think about what could happen if pictures could be uploaded by non-cantrian servers... world isn't that perfect and same goes with people. When picture is stored here (Cantr server) there is control over it's content. And that is good, believe me.

Id, pictures from other sites can be used in notes.
I've seen several maps that were hosted on other sites.

Hmm, I'll continue thinking up ideas for my witch character.

So have I, and most times the image has been removed from the host site. All the more reason to keep things on the Cantr server (besides that you're supposed to).

Whatever happened to "no magic in Cantr"?

Wow, wow. Wait.
Also: Cantr II is set in a fairly realistic world. The technology level is strange - it is possible to build cars and radios in a world where a state-of-the-art tool is likely to be a pitchfork - but there is no magic of any kind built into the game. (Now, if your character wants to pretend there`s magic, or believe things have happened by the power of some god, that`s another matter...)

Exactly. Your character can pretend (or believe) to be a witch, but your suggestion would be magic built into the game, wouldn´t it?
