Question

Postby Rabek Jeris » Thu Mar 25, 2004 10:38 pm

What determines spawn locations? Is it a totally random location? Is it one of a few set locations? Is it random but only if there are X players there? Is it pointless to begin a city somewhere that isn't currently spawning, since no-one will probably go there because they'll be at a spawn city instead?

Thank you for your time.

I beleive it is just Random. Perhaps newer locations to the game will start off slow but I'm not sure

Originally, spawning was solely at certain locations. Recently, 'people-centric' spawning has taken effect, where your likelihood of spawning in a given location depends on the number of people in said location.

Like I said in another thread, I like to think that the cron daemon went out for a break and had too much to drink, so it's all passed out instead of running the turns like it should.

Yes, people-centric spawning is the current system. In addition I have heard there is language-centric spawning, meaning that a character of a certain language will spawn near others of that language.

it has always been language centric.

In the old system there where specific language locations for spawning.

In the new system you are placed randomly. This is weighted on the number of characters at any location that are of the same laguage group.

For example if the Spanish do not like the Spanish/German Island, They could get in a boat and go somewhere else. If they are the majority then most Spanish new spawns will go where they go. There are certain situations that still use the old spawntowns.

Well, sure, but what I meant is that now language placement is not fixed to a location. It's fixed to people.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if all characters of one language died? Where would the next character of that language go?

But does it work as far as lets say there is a town with both Spanish and English speaking people cut down the middle as far as how many and when people spawn they could be either or as far as language.

Thank you all very much. People centric (or language, whatever you wish to call it) is what I was hoping it was. It means that once a city gets started, people will start spawning there, correct? Due to the increase of people there. Very cool.

Question, you wouldn't know how to learn a different language unless you were taught, but how the hell can you learn in cantr?....I mean, i know i can fake learning spainsh, just cuz i know it pretty good, but how could someone learn with it being a CRB?.......also, can my characters already know spainsh?, like before they were 20 they were taught but since you don't let anyone have a life before that, can you just know it and say something like, i just do?
I was not intoxicated while I wrote this.

Actually...I plan on someday learning how to emote basic gestures in a language I don't know, and then spawning a char and trying to learn the language anew, kinda like Silly was long ago last time I saw him ^^
