hide from animals. hide from people who didn't check inside. hide stuff from people who don't check inside.

i'm seeing some very definite uses on that new island with all the crazy wildlife.

You would think animals would use caves too. But yes, even an unlocked building, especially a big one, could be useful to lots of people. Finally give those aspiring criminals a little bit of a chance.

If this is implemented I'll have to make a char named Saddam Bin Laden. He'll make all these threats and maybe even attack one or two people then he'll spend months hiding in a cave eating raw potatoes planing the next big thing, which will be an exact duplicate of the first big thing. Maybe he'll even make notes and video tapes that his henchmen will deliver to the outside world, just to keep him in the public eye. Yeah...caves would be fun.

As for mines running out that's probably a good idea. After 700,023g of metal is stripped from the land the mines should be empty. Then you'll have these abandoned towns that used to be so great but everyone's moved on to better things. I think it would be really interesting to see a town lose it's main resource. *nods*

But ofcourse, that resource should "spawn" somewhere else in the region again, preferably one previously uninteresting and abandoned. But I don't think the whole town would just be abandoned. People don't want to leave their homes and other stuff like machineries behind to start all over again. They'd more likely establish a trade route.

If you were right, and the town would become a ghost city, it would be nice if the buildings decayed after a while, otherwise in time Cantr would be cluttered with ghost towns. Great for hiding for animals. Great for criminals too.

Perhaps being able to create simpler machines that can be dismantled later on. You can go for the fixed ones which can't be taken apart but give you higher output or use the simpler, less productive version.
Ghost towns would be great, I think companies would move on however a lot of companies in Cantr tend to hang around some areas even when they don't have a need.

Nah I dont think the caves should be able to be locked..just a cool place for people to hide out...or take over and have armed gaurds at the entrance...Theres lota things you could do with them, and there could be huge caves and small caves. But I do think they should only be in remote areas where there is not much civilization..like mountains, deserts, and the like.

You know there are remote grasslands, you got to stop thinking about the way the real world and start thinking more Cantr - ish.

Relatively speaking, some grasslands are pretty remote in the real world as well. The Central Asia steppes are not exactly the center of world civilization.

:o I like the idea of being able to hide in caves and getting choices to go North West East and South then you could get lost in a cave if you didnt remeber or write down where you came from and maybe making it a 10-20 minute journey to the next choice. And also be able to come out of diffrent sides and appear in the next town where some chops your stuff off for stealing 10 grams of sand you found on the ground. :x

Wouldn't that system require a location grid like the one planned for Cantr 2.0? Also, 10-20 minute travel times can't be implemented in Cantr without some major changes.

caves, sounds like a great way to make a town, should be a little different though, should be able to build a door probably out of wood or even iron and possibly place a lock after that (subterrainian fortress so to speak) being able to build buildings in the cave (very much like any town) and able to dig in a direction(subterranian passageways) to reach another mountinous spot (caves could be restricted to mountain regions or anywhere else stone is available).

sounds nice, adds interesting perspectives too, no motorvehicles underground because of pollution. socially speaking soemone could have almost 2 towns in 1 or even 2 seperate empires in the same location (one in the cave which is locked and the other is on the ground outside of the cave) can be quite interesting

If you're going to be putting a door on then wouldn't you want to hide the door in some way? Course you might not which then eliminates the need for any sort of camoflage project, underground societies are my dream goal in Cantr.... or will be when they get implemented.

When there's weather hiding in caves could be the safest places to be, there could be massive flooding and the only safe place is up in the mountains!
Then you've got people arriving in new areas with caves and what's the first thing they're going to do? Live in them, you don't want to waste time building a house if you've got a cave you can go live in straight away.

would be intresting to see something like this, some of its a little over the top but i would like to see some of the things in here happen, resources dissappear over time due to over mining and cave mines to go along, jus browsin.

There are alot of towns that already restrict gathering of some resources.
Ever try to get permission to gather restricted resources?

Resources dissappear over time due to over mining would just cause those resources to be restricted even further.
