I've come across a few well RPed pirates, and played one a while back (who was short lived). For the sake of sounding like a stuck record - the more thievery piracy and general antagonism the better, frankly.

And even then, you can always start a new life after one of your chars died, so why bother about a char whose life has been broken by piracy?
I think (a) life should become more precious, more valuable in Cantr. So players will do their best to preserve it.
A character might feel like giving up after they've lost everything to pirates, but the player should rp it. Piracy gives great stimulus for rp. And you can fish sympathy from nearby towns that weren't robbed. The town of Kiii has been sacked by pirates several times in history but the worst times have been during the safe times with no conflict. Threats unite people and make them stay awake.
I think people would value their lives more if there was more threats to it. For example if you got stabbed by a bone knife, you know that's no danger but if the wound could get infected, that would at least hinder your life if not threaten your life.
Did you know that in Nethack, it's possible to choke on a fortune cookie if you eat when you're already full? (And people would eat as much as they can because you never know when you're going to find your next meal.) Or you could sprain your neck while falling down the stairs due to carrying too much. In Cantr you simply cannot carry above your capacity. And there are no stairs. Also you cannot eat more than a set amount of daily food, and only enough healing food to cure all damage. How on earth can a person eat several kilos of onions without choking? I dare say that Cantr would get more interesting if people had to take a risk of choking if they eat more than a kilo in an hour. If you managed to hit someone for say 45 percent they would also remain wounded and possibly go inside to recover rather than being there the next day like nothing happened.

Something annoys me... When pirates take hostages, almost all of them are incredibly brave and do not fear death at all, being heros... now good RP is cowardice and submission! It's more difficult and it's more realistic... Not everyone would welcome death; this is a lot to do with the whole thing about life not holding much value because you can potentially have infinite lives if they keep getting killed...

I wholeheartedly agree. The game is so much more fun if you RP even the unexpected...
I've been kidnapped by some good pirates and RPed along with that, but occasionally I get kidnapped by pirates that never even let you talk to them, or talk to you, and that's just BS and not fun.

Then theres the pirates who come on land, hit everyone, kill people, kidnap people and steal everything without a word. I get really wound up and angry at this. Players spend months and years investing time and effort into charachters only to see it all wiped out in seconds, and this makes me consider quitting the game, because whats the point.
Alas, the product of multiple LANGUAGE zones existing together in a friggen game. I hate the language barriers. First contact ever as a player was fun for an hour. Since then, I've hated it.

On the other hand, there're a few of chars that'll RP being a hostage/prisoner. The ussual attitude is "My life would have no sense without my goodies anyway, so I'll try how much do I have to piss you before you slash me for good"
the only one revission I see possible here is making "he's" mean "he was" instead of "he is".
No revission then

His last 'achievement' was tricking a town leader into his ship, killing him, plundering the whole town (A LOT of goods, took almost an hour to move them all), and leaving... and noone realized anything![]()
I bet they're still wondering what happened with the leader and why the hell all storages' locks are opened
Might want to revise this now :: points to dead character thread ::

If life as a prisoner (or slave) is the only life you have, what would you do?
Characters would try to survive more if life would be more valuable, and people could recover from pirate attacks, enslavement and other disasters without too much trouble. A (RL) year's hard work is too much trouble, two months of rebuilding, harvesting and manufacturing (or planning an escape) is not.
