Out of Curiousity I am wondering how many people have seen pirates in a while that have gotton away scot free and un-punished.

Um, one of my characters. :D
Can't say who he is, nor where he is though.

Also one of my characters has been a very successful thief, made off with quite a few things pretty easily. He even tricked a man in his sixites I believe to help him build a bike.

I've had a character be a pretty good pirate, except he was an idiot. A town locked his boat in the coaster harbor so he just gave them the keys and walked away to start a new journey. They didn't bother hitting me or anything, maybe they felt bad though.

personally, i think the key to being a good pirate is not being a jackass. but thats just me. if a pirate only comes and takes things, then sails away, i wouldnt hate them too much. but if they come, kidnap some people, murder some more, and then take resources, then ill want to kill them. I dunno, could just be wishful thinking.

One of mine, and he's doing great ;)
His last 'achievement' was tricking a town leader into his ship, killing him, plundering the whole town (A LOT of goods, took almost an hour to move them all), and leaving... and noone realized anything 8)
I bet they're still wondering what happened with the leader and why the hell all storages' locks are opened

 Now that's a good heist! I think generally you need to be subtle to make it out in one piece. Or to leave no witnesses.

It's enough to leave noone who will want - or will be able - to chase after you. You really don't have to worry about all the sleepers, underarmoured characters, or perfectly anyone if the town doesn't have a any ship at least as fast as yours 8)

Yeah but if you aren't familiar with the town, you can't know which ones are sleepers.

Then spend some time in the town, learn who are the sleepers, who's the leader, and who's holding the most valuable keys... and make them all think you're their friend, the most trustworthy one, who'd never, NEVER, harm them

I generally start a project to drag myself away from the harbour to avoid getting kidnapped, but sometimes when it's a nice person, I don't do that precaution. It might be fun to get kidnapped. But getting killed or having one's town looted, not so fun.

I have been trained to do another thing besides starting my own project.Don't want to tell any of you though, might make it harder to kidnap people.

I've got a character that tricked the only person in his village that he was a timid and shy person. Of course, he wanted to steal from him, but when he realized that the guy did'nt have anything of value, he took all the food and walked away after he telled him that he would come back. Bet he is still wondering where he is 8)
Then he came to a village with two unlocked boats and none outside, so he picked one and left the island

Just wondering how many people have played as a pirate?

Has everyone gone in for a bit of piracy once or twice with a charrie or 2? Or is it just a few people playing all the pirates and causing all the grief?

A couple of my charries have had recent run in's with pirates, and none of them have been "good" ones. i know being pirated is generally not a good thing but there's the good interaction with a bit of RP, maybe a chase, some turmoil and such. Generally annoying, but done right can actually add to the game.

Then theres the pirates who come on land, hit everyone, kill people, kidnap people and steal everything without a word. I get really wound up and angry at this. Players spend months and years investing time and effort into charachters only to see it all wiped out in seconds, and this makes me consider quitting the game, because whats the point.

Its a game, its supposed to be fun. Having months of your game life wiped out on the whim of another player who doesn't seem to really give a fig about the game and is just interested in killing and pillaging isn't fun.

But what can we do about it.

There are also defenders who hit a pirate without saying a word, that teaches you to hit and run fast.
