I'll assign two new lookouts immediately, to make sure that if one falls asleep the other can still be awake. *He walks off to find two sailors, then returns to the captain* The enemy ship appears to have not noticed us yet, captain. Maybe we should change out of our Royal Navy uniforms, to aid in our deception... and, can you speak French, sir? We might be able to delay them long enough to take them by complete suprise.

*He goes to the lookout to see what he's shouting about, then borrows his telescope too look out at the approaching ship. He nods silently to himself, then calls out* The Loire approaches. She's on a direct course for us - we'll need to maintain out facade until we can launch a suprise attack.

*Turns to trexdino* Have your men ready the cannons: we may need to fire at any time.

*he nods* Will do sir. *he turns to all the sailors and starts giving orders*

The echo of drums sound out across the water as the two ships clear for action and load their murderous daughters... all inside their oak hulls aware, or imagining the terrible onslaught of two Men O' War grappling to destroy one another... or of the horrors awaiting a boardinh party...

*The leiutenant climbs some way up the ratlines and squints through his glass* They're cleared for action sir, we're matched gun for gun... she's a bit lower in the water but we've taken damage... Marines, get swivvels in the fighting tops, sharpshooters to the fo'c'sle and the poop. The rest of you form in divisions and be ready to fire on my order and repel boarders if needed!

All is silent but for the clinks of chains and the squeal and groan of the wood below their feet... along with the steady breatheing of the officers, marines and sailors. Slowly, for both ships, the topsails of one another are paled into insignificance as the hulls become clearer to one another. A cough of smoke, and seconds later a low rumble, as the first bow chaser on the Loire fires...

ALL MEN, FIRE! *the midshipman yells* Load and fire men, don't stop until that boat is gone. Load and fire.

*he shakes his head* No no.. we're too far out of range... and the Captain wants us to appear French until we have to fire back... It might just be a salute or a warning shot... We did just sink a British ship after all... Never go over the head of the Captain, it is his decision, Midshipman.

The cannon fired from the Frenchman gives rise to a cannon ball flying across the bows of the Sparrow.

Alright then, cut off the attack men. Stay ready though. *he nods*

(OOC: Sorry, sounded like they were broadsiding us)

OOC:Well they're very far away from each other and a Bow chaser is a cannon at the bow of the ship that can fire forwards rather than to the sides))

Damn, the captain is... indisposed... at the moment, I'll have to take temporary command of this situation. We are not to take any aggressive action until I or the captain orders it. We may just have the element of surprise on our sides.

But How are we to deal with that warning shot, sir?

Well, lieutenant, it may have been just that, a warning shot to show her intentions should ours be foul. And I don't need to tell you that a battle can be decided before it has begun when you have the element of surprise over your enemy.

*he quietly walks up to the main deck up to Joo and says quietly* Perhaps it be best we be quiet when talking aobut battle with them, just in case they over hear us. Also, what if the warning shot is some sort of idiotic French tradition when meeting another ship, and we are to do something back?

Get back to your post, midshipman! I don't need your idiotic advice. If at least you can tell your men to fire the cannons when ordered, do that.
