Docking - when you have a chance...

Postby boomhaeur » Tue Mar 23, 2004 6:30 pm

...could you make it a little slower!!!!

At this rate my char should dock sometime around day 1000 :p

Question though - Is it sort of random? When I first clicked dock I was 9% docked on the next turn but after that it seems to only progress at 1% PER TURN! At that rate it's going to take about 4.5 more Cantr years to dock...

There's another thread that has a bunch of stuff about docking on it, but don't worry, it'll only take you 2-3 days to dock.

That's still a long time. Is it based on the weight of the ship?

Different factors including overall speed of the boat, number of chars on it, amout of cargo, etc. The longboat is also one of hte slowest boats avalable, almost anything else is faster.

2 turns, 2 more percent

2 people on the boat -- not super super heavily loaded. We were moving @ 100% when we selected to dock.

Is there a chance that it'll bump up faster at some point? This is really really slow....

The closer a boat is to being docked the "faster" it docks, keep track of the docking procedure close as you can and you'll see. I've never seen one take longer then 5 days to dock, and no less then 2.

from what i've seen docking goes faster if your closer to where your docking aswell.

Yeah, how close you are to the destination also helps determine how long the docking takes.

hmm... the docking actually jumped a bit last turn (up to 17% now)
My char will certainly give being closer to the location next time he tries docking - he was just so excited to see so somewhere he could dock he just jumped right in ;)

At the moment the turns are being processed an hour earlier than normal. The counter at the top of the screen doesn't adjust for that. That could have been throwing you off while looking at it.

yeah, ugh found that whole "off by an hour thing" out when one of my other chars got hit by a bear and an elephant when I wasn't looking.

Poor sod is just running for his life around the island now trying to survive.

:: glares at Jos for designing such a sinister island ::

no joke at one time my char was sitting there with a handful of each animal including:

Rhinos, bears, elephants, hawks, rabbits, horses, lions, etc. etc. There were 8 or 9 different species there.

Now he's got 25% strength and food to last 50 days. hopefully he can build back enough strength to stop and farm again somewhere in that time - or find other people first.

Acutally, I designed that island. I assume you are talking about the island that the Hercva/Sawyer landed on, correct? Yeah, my character already died but I did accomplish what I set out to do and that was to make exploring dangerous. That island is just proof. How many people are left that went with the Hercva/Sawyer out of Kirinn? I assume the newspawns on that island never had a chance but since most of the crew had shields, I imagine that some of them survived.

"How many people are left that went with the Hercva/Sawyer out of Kirinn?"

My char doesn't know - he was exploring when the animals went nuts and got attacked by hawks as soon as he walked into a place and left right away only pausing to leave a note for the person he was exploring with - she's never caught up with him and he had just decided to go it alone. My char is now looping back and just exploring as many places as possible before I assume he is inevitably killed (or finds other people).

I had another Char who spawned near Kirinn and ended up helping some folks who were looking to build a boat. The sole "survivor" returned to Kirinn in the H&S shortly after reporting that everyone had died - but he only indicated a crew of four... it'll be fun to see how this island plays out.

It's going to take a lot to colonize it - the kinds of animals are one thing but they also just ran wild during the insane breeding time. My char has been through a few spots where he barely paused to note the resources available - it literally had 20+ of each animal there.

I really want to find that island.

Probably didn't help that the expidition set out from Kirinn and therefore probably didn't have too many iron shields. I predict we'll have fast, well-armed exploration parties out of the Karnon region within 5 years.
I'm not dead; I'm dormant.
