Improved fighting.

Postby The Hunter » Fri Sep 05, 2003 11:55 am

Like Solfius already suggested, an improved fighting "system" would be higly appreciated. But I think the Idea solfius suggested, especially with all the suggestions made implemented, would take a considerable time to think out and programmed.
How about a simplified version?

When you hit a person ar an animal, and he/she or it would strike back at you, you get to land another blow... etc..

Cuz Solfius is right. Fighting takes ages,. Like a fistfight...

Quite simple, but it'll do for me...

We-ell? How abt. it?

You mean an unlimited amount of blows (and retaliations?)

Wouldn't work as long as some are protected enough to be immune to unarmed violence...people would be able to wipe a whole village out in an hour.

I suggested the idea of critical hits as a way to speed combat up and making it more dangerous, even for well armed/protected combatants.
This would also be a great way of getting new folk lore and heroes...imagine the rumors about the unarmed peasant boy who defeated the kings well armed soldier :)

I think it was meant as

You can still only hit once per day but if you get hit back {animal or people} your allowed to hit again whatever just hit you back.

So people logged off would be protected under the same rules as today.

So as long as two people keep going back and forth then they could finish their fight in one day? I really like this idea if that is how it would work. Maybe some randomness could be added in and then fights would be interesting, like say you have an 80% chance to be hit without a shield, 60% with a wooden shield, 55% with a targe, and 45% with an iron shield, and then if the weapons did a random amount of damage it would be like a real fight, plus the small weapons like slingshots and such wouldn't be completly useless against people with iron shields.

I think it's fine how it is. It's balanced. Having the ability to hit animals twice a day would be nice.

p.s. It's balanced considering the goal of the game is not violence.

If the goal of the game is not violence then there needs to be two things added.

The ability to drag people off a trail and the ability to see obvious weapons and sheilds.

The only way to control people or to see thier sheilding is to stab them full force to slow them down on a trail or see if they're shielded.

Cantr is a society simulater, violence is an integral part of any society, even though is never the main thing.

I also like the current system we have. It works! And thats good enough for me!

Fighting improvements is one of the last things I'd ever change in the game. But thats just me. :)

Heres an idea thats not really neccesary, but it would be nice. Bodily damage such as wounds, scars, missing limbs etc... that would be kinda cool. "you see a man in his twenties walk in with his arm missing"

I was also wondering why orion has a link to cantr saying "great game" if these are cantr message boards and everyone here already plays it. Just my critisizm for the day.

War and violence have great inpact on the way communities form.

It feels like the "pascifists" are afraid that a more advanced combat system will lead to more fighting in the game...but I think it will be the other way around.

As it is now a single person with good weapons, an iron shield and a lot of healing food can destroy a whole town.
Most of the people who want an improved combat system is suggesting more risks and the possibility for many weak people to overthrow a strong, single warrior.
